So who really gives a ****? I would be more surprised/interested if Ashley Young "came out" and said "Yes, I am a diving cheat" or John Terry made a frank admission to Piers Morgan "I really am a racist twat".
Totally agree Eamon. What sexuality bias a player may have, is completely irrelevant, in my eyes. They are in the public eye, because of their footballing skills, end of.
Totally agree with Eamon. Shame in this day and age that this actually makes the news. Some blokes fancy other blokes.....so what !! It's not my scene but it really shouldnt be an issue. What does p*** me off, is that in some reports it's made out that footballers are frightened of coming out 'cos we, the fans, will give them abuse. Of course your gonna get a few idiots as always but to make us all out to be homophobic thugs is out of order. I would think the reaction of some of their fellow professionals is more of an issue.
Would any of us love our children less if they were gay. Of course not so its time for it to stop becoming news. It needs a high profile player to come out at the height of his career to have a real impact. Interestingly the American football player has had to strongly deny that he is gay and that he really loves women. Sad if not true, maybe money is a driver in this in that sponsors may walk away.
People applauding saying they were brave, they were not. The first major player who comes out while playing will be the brave one as we never know what abuse they will get week in week out. I don't really care, I'm sure we've had a couple of gay players in the last couple of years and it wouldn't make any difference if they came out.
This day and age doesn't apply to football. Football is still in the dark ages when it comes to sexuality.
Very, very well said. Don't know about Rangers but allegedly threre's at least one Arsenal player who's 100% Gay. Anyone else read the ridiculous insinuation that the German national team has become less boring thanks to the input of Gay players?
Good luck to him but all it really means to me is an increased chance with the women on the planet...
I know it shouldn't.........but this really made me laugh! I suspect that almost every Premier League squad has at least one gay player.
No really, there were Gay people that credited the greater creativity of the national team to the input of the Gay players. Rubbish of course, only allegedly gay players I remember were Falcao and especially Serginho from the Brazilian national team of decades ago. Serginho was probably the the worst player to ever wear the brazilian shirt. Certainly the worst striker, total donkey.
I'm sure Blatter will make it a rule that every team should have at least 1 home grown homosexual in the first team!
Another small step to it not being a story about sexuality. There are plenty of gay players, and it really needs a current 'star' to come out. Then it'll be a non-story going forward.
This. The only benefit is that the more recently retired players that come out, the more younger teammates will have known there was a gay man in the dressing room with them and was perfectly fine - the more this happens, the more the presumed macho clique of football dressing rooms gets dispersed.
I'm gay and kept this fact from my fellow players for many years. I was 'outed' by a friend of a friend, totally innocently, and the reaction from my team was absolutely superb. I was a committed, no-nonsense hard-tackler and this carried on after my 'outing'. It didn't change my approach to football at all. My friends and fellow players admired that. Gay is/wasn't the issue, it's how you approach the game. I want to win.
