It's Realpolitik again, donga. Labour can't compete financially with the Tory millions unless they suck up to some millionaires of their own.
    Sad but true.

I'm in a similar boat mate, it's a safe Tory seat & I voted Lib Dem last time out, as a tactical vote, but that turned out to be an epic fail anyway.

I said from the minute that the Lib Dems signed their pact with the devil, that next time round Labour merely needs to run with the slogan "Vote Lib Dem, get the Tories" & they should be home & hosed.

I've actually met Ed & tbh he surprised me. I was totally underwhelmed by him before meeting him, but he changed my opinion of him. He's very unassuming, is really quite charismatic & he gets ferried round in a tatty motor, so he's not 'up himself' by any stretch. Decent fella.

I got my electoral register form through about 2 months before Christmas. I don't even know where the ****ing thing is now. Labour started going to **** when John Smith passed away.

Not surprisingly I find myself in the same position as you electorally. It's a very safe Tory seat and I have felt obliged to vote LibDem in a vain attempt to unseat them for the last 20 years. However in 2105 I will 'vote my heart' and vote Labour even though they stand no chance.

Unfortunately, I am becoming more and more desperate for a true socialist party of the left to emerge. Labour, as it presently presents itself cannot seriously claim to be either socialist or even left leaning (let alone 'wing'). For that to happen we need a new bread of true socialist thinkers, economists and truly enthused politicians. We need a new definition of the mixed economy and a critical examination of both what the economy exists for and the true meaning equal opportunity.

Now Ed may have surprised you but I don't even see a shadow of the ideals that drove say Bevin in him. Sadly those of the left are now desperate for their own Socialist Obama.

Like I said earlier. True Labour died with John Smith.

I think RHC nailed it earlier, when he said that post the sad demise of John Smith labour has lost it's way.

New Labour was simply Tory lite, with the odd patronising nod to the middle left.

I ought to clarify, that whilst he surprised me, I was not overly inspired either - more the 'best of a bad bunch' than a genuine inspirational Statesman, albeit he's still very young & appears to be growing into the role as time goes on.

I agree there's a void at present. The passion that I had for politics in my youth just isn't there anymore, as I see most of them as being different shades of the same **** & ultimately most of them, are in it for the career path, as opposed to having some passionate desire to inspire & lead.

Most of "real" Labour's best polititions were card holding members of the socialist party and nearer to communist values than today's new labour ****ers.

you lads are basically right about new labour being just a centralist party with little social values, its more liberal than anything.

If you get a labour obama it'll be blair again. thats all obama is... mouth.

In short the best you get is the roads, schools and hospitals work... ha ha... the trains run on time and taxes are ok. anything more than that is wishful thinking.

we are america with an nhs... not quite... i admit.. but you'd better look out for yourself and not rely on anyone cos nobody will help you.

I don't want anyone to help me mate, that's not what I'm looking for.

I want to live in a society that is fair & equitable to all of it's citizens. One that applies the same level of moral judgement on what is deemed to be 'right' across the entire spectrum. A country that looks after those who are in need of help, but equally doesn't tolerate those who want something for nothing.

What I don't want to see is plums like Osborne coming out with nonsense like he did the other day i.e. We need to reduce the deficit by £25BN - no problem chum, crack on - But we're intending that HALF of that amount is going to come from welfare, which accounts for only 11% of the total spend.........

That's attacking the poorest in our society, whilst not tackling the tax evasion (both corporate & personal) at the other end of the spectrum. That is neither fair nor equitable & that in a nutshell - is the Tories.

Forget about political parties. You have to look at the basic thought that underpin the differing philosophies and they are so very different that it is very difficult to reconcile the two. The right will always seek paint them as being the same to generate boggy-man type fear and true communist may attempt to sneak under the banner of socialism as a flag of convenience. The sad thing is that the political voice of socialism has been userped by parties like New Labour.
