How do we know that Hodgson and Dalglish if given more time would not have succeeded at the scousers? We will never know. Yes no one expects Moyes to stay at United for 26 years, not even 6 years but to sack him after a few months is totally stupid and won't happen.

Woodward was clearly given the job of recruiting new players. he failed on pretty much all counts.

If Fellaini was first choice why not get that business done then look at one more? That makes more sense, they could have been spending the last seconds of the transfer deadline attempting to get someone else rather than sealing a deal they knew would happen.

The highlighted bit is the crux of all our transfer dealings of the Glazer era. They won't do it.

Fergie toed the line and got by on (relative) scraps. The result is the squad we now have.
Woodward quite clearly tried to get all those targets on the cheap, again I fail to see how you can blame Moyes. He had literally just got the job and no doubt trusted United to get the men he wanted. They failed so let's see what now happens.

Don't you accept that Ferguson's MO changed during the Glazer era? Less ruthless in getting rid of players past it or no good? Giggs, Ferdinand, Anderson, Scholes, Keane, Nani, all would have been adequately replaced in the pre Glazer era?

Coincidence? Or did he just become more chilled in his final years?

You can usually tell early on if someones cut out for something.

You could tell after 10 seconds that Roy wasnt.

With Woodward being so incompetent then any manager would have struggled. Woodward has to take the lions share of the blame for the transfer dealings, as he was diabolical.

Theres not much difference between the era before the Glazers and the Glazers time at the club tbh.

Fergie was careful with his spending though, that I agree with. I always felt he was saving the money for the next manager. To give him the best possible chance.

One thing we can be certain of is the Glazers do not want Uniteds levels to drop.

I also think Fergie, being old school, refused to pay for the pointless leeches called agents.

I think both are equally to blame. Both were disasters.

The money was going into the greedy American owners banks. They have taken an estimated £680million out of the clubs coffers. Now if that money was re invested into the squad, think how much better the team would be doing. In plain truth, the Glazers are sucking every penny out of the club, otherwise the likes of Cleverly, Jones, Smalling, Nani etc would be nowhere near the Utd squad.

miles better but the same money would have gone out in a PLC so its irrelevant.

Business men tend to take money out of their businesses. Its not exactly uncommon.

Jones and Smalling are excellent players. unfortunately they are constantly played out of position.

Let's hope so on both counts.

Maybe we'll now get some decent players in.

    Wrong that.

What the Glazers have done, is basically to take money out of the business to pay for the original purchase price, so the business has been funding the cost of them buying it!

That's in addition to the £20m per annum salaries & management fees that they've been helping themselves to.

The majority of the cash that's left the club wouldn't have done if it wasn't for the leveraged purchase by the Glazers.

Point one is not true, the money taken out has been to pay off the £850 million debt which did not exist as a plc.
Dividends would have been removed yes, not dividends + debt management.

Point 2 I agree with, wahey!!

Bad appointment after bad appointment given time to take you nowhere.

    Souness
    Evans
Houlier ( wasnt all bad tbh )
Rafa ( good start, shocking in the end )
    Hodgeson ( Your Moyes )
Dalglish ( so bad he should have been put down <laugh> )
Rodgers ( 20 years later you look like yiou may have finally got it right )

Thats what I want United to avoid and why they shouldnt be like Liverpool.

And yet Rodgers had an awful first 6 months....if we'd sacked him then would we be better off now?

You miss a big point about LFC in your ramblings. It wasn't giving managers time that was our biggest issue it was the abject failure of a succession of owners to realise the impact of the new age of tv deals etc. During Moores and co's time we totally failed to expand the stadium and lost the plot when it came to wage control, player spending, global investment etc, they then thought joint managers was a good idea, they then sold us to a pair of absolute cowboys who repeated the same mistakes all over again just in a much shorter time frame. Our owners were (in the main) a far bigger problem than the managers. If I was you I'd be far more worried about the Glazers and the likes of Woodward than I would be about the manager.

It's easy to say "let's not turn out like them" but would you rather turn out like Leeds for example? Chop and change until you collapse? What you neglect to think about is how Liverpool would have faired without some stability. Despite having no titles for over twenty years we've still won a European Cup, a UEFA Cup, 2 Super Cups, 3 FA Cups and 4 League Cups. Hardly comparable to Uniteds record under Fergie or our record for the two decades before but still a haul that puts most other clubs (bar the oil clubs and Arsenal) to shame. Had we not had that stability we would have suffered a lot more than we have.

You look at Chelsea and City as great examples but it's not the chopping and changing that's brought them success it's all about the crazy cash they threw at their teams. No one respects them for that but you seem only too happy to sell the soul of the club for a few quick trophies. Bizarre.

This is patently absurd. To think that any money saved was for the next manager. You must have been living in another planet in the last few years. If you truly believe that you believe in father christmas...

Any money saved was for servicing the huge amount of debt and interest payments imposed by the greedy americans on the club itself. If it were not for fergie we would have been in the **** right at the beginning of the glazers takeover. I feared that was it with the Chavs with the limitless funds and City emerging. But somehow Fergie kept it going with a very limited budget. Even the scousers and Spurs spent more than United over the last few years FFS.

Theres an article by that chap who talks a lot about Uniteds finances who states the difference is slight.

The figures for the PLC are lower as the income was lower mind but as a % it wasnt all that different.

I'll try to find it at some point.

A quick point though, off topic. Its quite nice to be having a footballing chat, even though we completely disagree on many parts. Makes a change from the usual ****e on here.

Youve always spent well, supported almost all your managers in the market and yet each failed.

Not sure what you are talking about but regardless of bad management behind the scenes, on the pitch you failed, failed and failed some more.

As for Rodgers, the generally feeling around the club and from fans was that he was doing good things and the results would come. Its not like that with Moyes. Even his biggest fans struggle to find a positive.

I believe in Father Christmas a lot more than I believe in Moyes right now <ok>

I like how everyone but Moyes is to blame though. The innocent little rascal.

Oh yeah, I agree with that.

All it needs now though is Matth to interject with one of his "I for one support him" posts and it'll all turn to ****.
