Morning Folks, How are we, Cameron Stewart is set to sign for Leeds Utd, on loan for three months!!! The Football League have blocked plans for Leeds to sign the 22 year old on a permanent basis until the Summer as he has already played for two clubs this season. Its a real shame, instead of blocking home grown young talent from flourishing, the football league would be better off blocking teams from flooding their teams with foreign imports, and in Watford's case fielding an almost complete Udinese side. Even though this loophole has been closed, teams are still permitted to use 5 overseas loan players, which would make a difference to any team. One thing that I am proud of this season is the amount of British / UK and Ireland players Leeds usually start with. With the exception of Zuliukas and Austin, all our regular players are British. In fact I believe the only other foreign player in our squad (I could be wrong) is Diouf!!! I believe clubs should be encouraged to use home grown players. Perhaps teams that do, should be given some sort of points or cash bonus??? Discuss? As the takeover nears completion, it has been confirmed in the YEP, that McDermott will we given funds to spend in January. It does fill me with confidence that both Haigh and Flowers are lifelong Leeds fans. They perhaps do not have the spending money as some of these Arabs, but they are committed to the cause! Would you rather have billionaire arab owners?
Morning Elland and all. Think it was flagged early on that Stewart had already played for two clubs and could only sign an emergency loan deal. A correct rule I believe or you could end up with players turning out for several clubs per season. Also positive Haigh and Flowers are lifelong Leeds fans. However without very deep pockets, they are wasting their time and ours. Drastic team refinancing and rebuilding needed in the short term otherwise well be sat here for many seasons to come discussing the same nonsense
Morning all With regard to Stewart it makes sense and costs us zero as a pre-contract agreement will have been signed between the player and the club. WE get him on loan and pay his wages, Hull get him off the wage bill and we sign him for a 2 or 3 year deal in the Summer for free. Lets hope he's worth it. I would prefer a rich arab or yank as owner of the club, because I believe they would see the potential sooner and invest heavily in our success. Flowers and Haigh may be Leeds fans but we've seen hundreds of fans running clubs and gone into administration. I dont think that will happen, but the snails pace of development is also damaging to us, as smaller teams move ahead of us faster and thos twats with parachute payments make for an unfair playing field.
Morning all and a belated wish that you all had a good Christmas and New Years as I haven't managed to get on here since! While I think there should be more of an emphasis on home grown players in the English Leagues, it is hard to do so without discriminating these days. It does harm our international prospects when the majority of the Premier League are foreign, and managers are reluctant to look at the championship (perhaps rightly in most cases) for English players. At least Roy broke the trend of pretty much only using the "big 4" clubs bringing some of the Southampton lads in.
Morning all ... hopefully Stewart is hungry to prove himself at a massive club and he reaches his potential, would be a big plus for our team ... happy with Haigh so far, he is definitely trying his best for Leeds United, and is keen for the club to grow and become a force again ... his handling of Bates, Harvey, Williams and Fry was just superb ... he wants to develop the Leeds United brand, even going so far as to fund Leeds Ladies out of his own pocket to the tune of £1m ... he saw through Warnock and replaced him with a very good manager who will hopefully be with us for a long time ... Watford have just signed two more Udinese players ... Happy New Year LiD Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
morning all Would rather have a fan than a multi-billionaire arab. Want to see owners have a passion for the club not a passion for the bottom of an accounts sheet. Happy with what Haigh is doing, at least we're not selling our best players. Regarding Stewart, the rules are the rules so not going to complain on that one. Clubs should be encouraged to grow home grown talent (British) and close the loop hole on the 25 man rule that's there to appease Chelsea and Arsenal. And Eland your wrong mate, Aribiyi is an American
There needs to be a level playing field with home grown players/foreign improted players. Due to the differentials in VAT and payment terms, its mostly cheaper and more cost effective going abroad for players, and thats just a fact of life. UK clubs demand a high price and usually want the whole price paid up front, and then theres 20% of the value in VAT. So clubs like Bradford can demand at least £2m for an untried player who may or may not be able to play at a higher level. On top of the £2m theres another £400k in VAT so he costs £2.4m in reality. A £2m player from overseas will usually be paid for over the term of the contract so could be 3-years and only have a 7% VAT which is £140k not £400k. which means he only costs £59k per month over 3-years. Not a whopping £2.4m all at once. Our tax laws go a long way towards damaging our national game and national team. Our tax laws dictate that clubs will go overseas first which means foreign players take over and home grown players dont get the breaks unless they are exceptional.
They'll return tomorrow for the Sheff Wed game! Life got a bit hectic around Christmas so barely had any free time. Hopefully we'll get back to winning ways with the match threads....
Morning all. Good news on Stewart, albeit by accident. Gives BMD an opportunity to try before you buy.
I think McDermott said at one point he would only be looking at loans that he could convert to signings at the end of there deal. Goal posts have probably shifted now though, beggars cant be choosers and all that! Not to mention if our new board would fund the loan signing of someone like Zaha I am sure he would rip there hands off for it as things stand, and there would be no option to buy on the cards there!
plus will be near end of season when he goes back to Hull with 3 or 4 weeks left on his contract should be a free instead of £200-£300,000.
I think we were getting him on a free anyway but he will only be able to play for us until 9 April is it worth it ?Surely better top look elsewhere if we are thinking of top6 like Burke Rowe McKay Stevens
Leeds60 and you say this because you now know we are not getting Wells? Hope your health's picking up by the way
At least it gives us a chance to look at Stewart first, if he doesn't match up we don't need to try and sign him. Yes it would be nice to have someone with billions to throw at the club, but as you've seen at ull and cardiff it brings it's own problems and yes I know they are in the premier, but at what cost down the line. Is Haigh a Leeds United fan? Just asking and I've no proof, but there were rumours from 606 members that he was a scum fan. Like I say I haven't seen any evidence of it.
You goota love the way Harry performs in every window. He is obviously in need of cash for a couple of players, so is bullying the barcodes by saying they need to be quick or he'll sell Remy elsewhere and the price is going up ...... You can guarantee plenty of action at QPR, and apparently he is odds-on to return to the ammers if Gold sacks big Sam. How does Harry get rid of unwanted players who cost a lot of money? Well you tell the owner Fernandez to see if a Thia team want to sign a new striker who has played for England It works because that twat who loved to batter us when he played for bardiff is on his way to Thailand instead of coming to us
Seeing as Watford had 7 players in their squad from the academy last game, how many points, or how much cash would you suggest should come their way?
