Wey the interview went well, was offered a trial shift tomorrow but alarm bells went off when they guy skirted the questions I had about what they actually do and the fact the office was far out of the city centre and was just a shell - not well decorated and the lass on reception had a laptop for a computer.
I've googled the company name and basically it's a door to door sales pyramid scheme, you work on 100% commission based (no salary & around a £5er per sale made) where your manager takes a cut of what you earn and then you eventually progress to do what they do then manage those managers then run your own company. Not that they tell you this at the interview mind.
That and the fact they haven't filed their books with company house since 2008 means I won't be going tomorrow and now ringing Vodafone to put a block on their number.

That sounds so similar to something I had! They advertised it as selling top quality products made by blue-chip companies to the direct consumer.... in reality it was sitting in an nPower/BT/Sky/RAC stall somewhere in a shopping centre (I'm sure you've all seen the buggers!)
Good idea and well handled <ok> hopefully the next one that comes along will be better!

Christ alive. Those schemes are still going?

I went to an interview shortly after finishing college and it was essentially selling restaurant promotions where people pay £15 and get a discount card valid for 6 months. I went for 3 days, learnt about their business, how they got the deals etc and thought 'I can do this myself!'

Didn't go in the next day, drove to a restaurant nearby my house with a good set up of residential and business nearby. Talked to the owner and we got on well. As I was a chef looking at getting out of the trade, we put together a menu that was minimum fuss, cost friendly to him and his customers and then ran off about 1000 'cards' to sell for £2 and valid for a year guaranteeing the customer 10% off seasonal menus.

He got calls from people asking if this was real and he confirmed that it was. Sold all the cards in a week, kept half for myself after paying off the printing costs and put the rest in the bank for future printing.

By the end of the month I had 5 restaurants signed up on my books and the company I'd been to before for 3 days threatened legal action.

I informed a solicitor who shot them down and they eventually shut down operations when the media started to criticise them for employment practices...

I sold the business to mate for a £1000 a few months later and fecked off to Greece for 3 months :)

Always google the company name for vacancies like those, they usually sound too good to be true in the job description anyway.

The thing is I've applied for that many jobs recently I couldn't remember the ad it was for, think it was a bog standard graduate customer service ad saying experience preferred so they're probably getting smarter than using too good to be true ads as personally I won't send my CV off to those kind of adverts.
Last night I was just using their website and thinking of questions to ask them, as well as question I'd be asked so didn't think to Google them extensively despite their website looking a bit basic, only thought to Google their name properly once I'd come back from the interview when the alarm bells were going off!
Needless to say the first page is full of results of people saying it's a scam.
They've got an office in Newcastle as well so anyone on here looking for work should avoid a company called: Orrick Marketing Solutions & they also run under the name: LTD Global Outsourcing as well as a few others.
    Forewarned is forearmed <ok>!

I took a job in Greece for the summer so I needed the extra cash to go and do it as the pay was terrible but the experience was incredible.

After 3 months out there I calculated I'd been paid less than £100 so the added cash from selling the business kept me afloat and alive.

So that's how Sheeva does it. Those scams really do get annoying though, between them, charity fundraising and camps in random parts of the world it's hard to find any jobs on student orientated sites.

July 8th will be my last day. I have no idea what the hell im going to do now. Thanks to my employers, I left college early, and did this bloody course. All I have now are GCSE's and sodding AS Levels. Urgh, I could have been at Uni now!

Gonna have to start the job hunt....might look further afield to see if there are any jobs in the toon. Anyone got a link to a decent site with jobs in Newcastle?

Hopefully you'll be surprised, best of luck sorting everything out.

edit - Have you considered starting your own business? I know a few guys who started on their own after being made redundant. If you have any skills or ideas for a company there might be some good business grants you can apply for in England like Business Link or something. Not sure though.

Unlucky mate, I hope something turns up for you. In the meantime why not make a self-pitying article about it? The abusive replies seem to make Tash feel better about his lot in life. <ok>

Sorry to hear that, hope you find another job soon soon, I see you're in York depending on what you were doing there's either nothing around or ****loads of jobs available, bit of a ****ter that there's no balance!
With regards university (on the flip side) I've come out of uni after being in full time education all my life - don't have much job experience apart from the odd part time one so I've got a degree but **** all job prospects as everyone wants experience and the only real graduate jobs around are all working in recruitment and are massively oversubscribed so the grass isn't always greener!
