    I totally agree, he's "ok".
Will we spend that sort of money in a jan transfer window on another striker, after spending £26m on soldado who doesn't score? Doubt it.

Prior to signing though tots, both strikers looked like very good acquisitions. Let's remember that negredo has an outstanding team around him.
We have some good players, but it's all been a mess.
Too many new players at once, a manager who didn't play to the strengths of the team, a sacking, and now a new boss. It can't have been easy for anyone.

Don't get me wrong though, I do believe soldado was a case of "the best of the rest", as we'd pissed about with strikers for so long.

Soldado wasn't thinking of a massive wage hike due to interest from Man City.

It's been said that Baldini wanted Benteke but AVB wanted Soldado, so on the one hand you can blame AVB...but since Benteke would've cost as much as Soldado and has been very poor for most of this season, perhaps AVB got that one right.

Last season AVB wanted Lewandowski, but instead we signed Dempsey.

"Borrowing" this from elsewhere - a quick summary of some of the more recent ITKs

    1. "Will get busier, we won't do much in, might be a few outs, most we will do is 2 in, money is there, players not".

    2. "Have no news on a striker, but Livermore deal likely to be done, if we get asking price, Carroll will be recalled. Left back usual suspects as well as few young 'uns like Cresswell being looked at, Baines and Shaw not likely to move now but Baines to UTD in the summer, Shaw to Chelsea is more than likely, doubt Coentrao will come now AVB is gone and we are looking at adding young British talent as we are getting low on numbers and with Defoe's likely departure we will be another 1 down."

    3. "heard that the club have had talks with a young striker playing in Holland. No other details were given but said he was young (under 21) and that it would be as a squad player not a major signing."

Info 1 and 2 from the same person, 3 from someone else.

Make of it what you will.

I'd like us to go for a Prem proven striker. Someone like Fletcher would be a good addition.

A LB maybe as well after Rose's recent form, unless we recall Benny (which I think we should).

Proven to score about 12 goals per season? How does that help?

That is two thirds of what Ade got in what was widely acclaimed to be a great season.

    ;)

As opposed to the 5 Soldado has got this season?

Fletcher's managed goals at every club he's been too, taking into consideration the calibre of player he's played with compared to what we could offer, it only points to positive things. I don't want another foreign import who'll need time to adapt, we need someone who's proven in this league and there won't be many better players we can get for sub-£10m.

I think you'll find that scoring 50% more goals makes an awful lot more points!

Anyone playing up front throughout a PL season is likely to around 10 goals. People who score more than 2 every 5 matches are the ones who add something

Soldado is just in a bad patch and he still scores about the same number as Fletcher. Kane is better than Fletcher already in my view.

Bad patch? He hasn't had a good patch since he's signed! Lol. He should be scoring tons more than Fletcher, not only did he cost £26m but he's got an abundance of attacking talent around him. Fletcher would likely thrive on the sort of service we can provide. He can't be much worse than Soldado right now.

Come on Power really? I'm a big fan of Kane and think he can become a good player but saying he's already better than a consistent Prem goal scorer? No way.

Fletcher cost Sunderland about £14m and he doesn't contribute much apart from his goals, when I've seen them play.
Darren Bent Mk. II? No, thanks. We'd be better off keeping Defoe and signing someone on the cheap or just giving Kane a shot.

So if we'd had a 12 goal a season striker last season it wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference to where we finished? Hard to imagine

Perhaps it's a goal scorer we need now though. Ade is the type of player who can both score and create for those around him, we need a fox in the box so to speak and while Soldado can't hit a damn thing at the moment, I'd take a proven Prem scorer in Fletcher any day. I doubt Sunderland will demand £14m for him, probably looking at half that amount, if that. Or maybe Shane Long? There was a link in the paper about a cut price £2m deal being mooted, I'd take that all day long. We need to beef up the British/ home grown side of things and I'd rather get a decent deal on the likes of Fletcher or Long than pay over the odds for someone who's untested.

Defoe is supposedly Toronto bound according to whispers on Twitter.

I've said I'd be happy to give Kane a go but then I know that if he doesn't produce when called upon, many fans, probably including myself if I'm honest will question the club as to why a striker wasn't brought in.

We will all question the lack of a goalscorer (it's what we do) but if it was that easy every PL club would have a Van Persie.

AND! we have just spent 27 million on a goalscorer!
