£1.25 for Punch still seems rather cheap, but I guess if he wants to go, and we're unlikely to use him again, might as well take it.

Would be disappointed to lose Yoshida, because I actually think he has a lot of potential. If we lose both Puncheon and Yoshida I would suggest we really need to bring someone in. Having only Lovren, Fonte and Hooiveld as viable central defenders doesn't really bear thinking about!

 

I just can't see us letting Maya go without a replacement, which oddly means I won't be upset to see him go, as I'll be excited to see who we bring in. If that makes sense!?!

 

I agree and would have thought nearer to 2m would be about right, maybe even 2.5m. However, I am pleased that we have taken a reasonable decision and let this happen quickly and sensibly on this occasion.

 

I just can't really see the sense in letting him go, even if we do bring in someone else. Last season he was our first-choice central defender, now he's below even Hooiveld in the pecking order? If we bring in someone else and it's between keeping Hooiveld or Yoshida I know which I would rather have.

 

If he does go for £1.25m, can we then put to bed all that nonsense "Nicola is too stubborn/should let people get on with career/gets in way" stuff once and for all?

 

Oh I agree with that, but if he's pushing for a move and has interest from a fee paying club, then you can see why it would be this way round.

 

The likelihood is that he wants to leave, and I have to say I'm not particularly fussed because even when he was a regular last season I was wishing he wasn't. Nice guy, but we can do a lot better.

Yeah I can appreciate that, and if he really wants to leave then I guess that's a big factor, but I'm not sure any money we could get for him would justify it from our point of view. If he was playing more games (which is perfectly reasonable given how much he played last season) would he want to leave?

Then again there was that suggestion of 'personal problems', so maybe he's homesick or something. There must be something else at play here because given his important role last season, what's happening now is not really logical.

Yes. I imagine we'll be looking to offload him. Reading were supposedly keen to make his move permanent but with their ownership issues who knows if they can do a deal now.

 

yep, that was my point. He'll do it when it's right. It is right now.

 

Me too, however I would suggest he needs to be playing as first choice with World Cup looming.

 

I agree I'd like to think a youngster could step up but there has not been much sign of it so far. Not even on the bench.
