Little Raheem has been playing very very well of late and imo one of our best players. The rumours of him going on loan are ridiculous and clearly aren't true. With the news today that Walcott is out of the World Cup and Townsend clearly not being the perfect winger everyone thinks he is, I hope Sterling takes a chance and steps up again and consistently so and pushes for a World Cup birth. While at the same time steering us to a top 4 finish. I can't wait for Sturridge to get back to fitness and make our front line Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and Sterling. Very pacey and mobile.
not normally i want our players anywhere near the England team esp up and coming youngsters but in Sterling case i think it will do him good. hopefully he will put his head down and keep out of trouble as well.
His good form at the start of last season earnt him a England call, it was then that he turned ****. Obviously he had off field **** going off as well, plus he signed a new contract getting him a ridiculous amount of money for is age. Just hoped he learnt from his experience
I hope stirling has a great second half of the season but picks up a minor injury at the end of the newcastle game that rules him out of the world cup.
Certainly wouldn't go as far as to say he's 'one of our best players'. I would say Suarez, Sturridge, Gerrard, Hendo, Lucas, Coutinho, Sakho, Skrtel, Mignolet, Agger and Sakho at least can be classed as better than him at this moment in time. However I will say that he's an excellent prospect for the future. I've criticised him pretty heavily over the last 18 months, but recently he's been showing the natural ability that made him so popular when he first came on to the scene. People also tend to forget just how young he is (myself included). He has an awful lot to work on in terms of decision making and finishing, but with Brendan I do feel we have a manager who is more naturally suited to getting the best out of players (especially those with particularly large egos - Suarez and Sturridge I'm looking at you).
Think was referring to form. On current form he's one of the better players in the last month or so. I'd rather he didn't go to WC. He's too young and not played enough football in the Prem to warrant a call up yet in my opinion. Everyones talking about throwing all these youngsters into the WC squad but too many of them could stunt their development.
Walcocks injury might push Hareem closer to the World Cup. Not sure he's anywhere near good enough for that but at least he seems to be addressing a lot of the criticisms levelled at him over the last 12 months (he's actually been running at defenders recently).
England call up was the worst thing to happen to Sterling. Too much too soon. Some players take the whole thing in their stride, others unfortunately think once they've got that cap thats it the hard work is over and they've made it. Think Sterling originally fell into the latter category. Seems the last few months BR has managed to shake this out of him, make sure he knows there is still lot of hard work ahead of him and to get his head down. Always had the skill, but has definitely upped his work ethic.
It was getting so frustrating seeing him play like Downing, turning back all the time when his best attribute is his pace. I couldn't believe how few times he actually ran at defenders when we all know that's exactly what defenders hate.
I'd like to see Allen play RW when he returns from injury. A front four of Sturridge, Suarez, Coutinho and Allen would be quite formidable.
