He'll go. England have this thing about taking the 'golden' boys. Milner is a banker and I think Cleverley too. Not my choices mind you. On a Milner note, my mate is doing his A license coaching badge and spent two weeks at St George's Park and England Squad were there for a few days at the same time. He said that most the players were as he expected in terms of ability, but the one who shocked him was Milner. He said he has so much ability with a ball, but is told to just run up and down. FYI, in the small sided keep ball, he said that Lampard and Gerrard were shocking, always looking for the longest pass available in a 40 x 30M area and giving it away.
Lallana is a certainty I think. Lambert, good chance but he needs a few more goals to cement the place (which I am sure he will get). Rodriguez, I just think he won't get ahead of Welbeck, who Roy said he is a similar option to for England. He might have to hope for an injury. But he is still young, so next year he can start racking up the caps for the Euros. Bit too late for Shaw and Clyne, but same for them. So I can't disagree with Joey really, just swap Cole for Shaw. Other decent chances are are Barry, Milner, Dawson. I'm probably forgetting someone totally obvious.
I think Clyne is in with more than a shout. Defensively, he has it over both Johnson [who I have never been convinced by] and Walker. He also has pace to burn. He's a little shy in the attacking option compared to Walker, but that doesn't make him poor either, and he won't be caught upfield jogging back either, after making another incorrect passing decision.
Cleverly won't go. Too many people ahead of him now. I don't think he needs to get ahead of Welbeck. Welbeck's role is seen as so important that I think Hodgson will take a backup and Rodriguez is the next best thing. If he keeps scoring at anything like his current rate I can honestly see him going.
The OX will go if he stays fit for the rest of the season. Hodgson and especially Neville rate him very highly and before his injury he was in nearly every England squad.
Maybe. I agree he's highly thought of, but he's got a long way to go right now. Has to show some sort of form for Arsenal first I think.
Decided to stop being lazy and come up with mine: Hart, Foster, Forster; Baines, Cole, Johnson, Clyne, Cahill, Jones, Jagielka, Smalling; Wilshere, Carrick, Barry, Henderson, Gerrard, Barkley, Lallana, Walcott; Rooney, Welbeck, Lambert, Crouch. I can see Roy giving Clyne a go in the remaining friendlies if Walker continues to be tripe, and if you look at this season's form it's pretty clear which of the two is better. Neither Lampard nor Milner are doing nearly enough for me, and not Townsend either. I'm taking a punt on Barry as he's been really impressive for Everton, but I think there's a good chance Roy will only want one of Carrick and Barry, so perhaps he'll go for someone like Chamberlain instead if he gets going this season. Then to explain my controversial Crouch decision, Sturridge is looking very average and I can't see Carroll doing much when he's back. Crouch is looking useful this season and is always useful for England without fail.
Hart Forster Foster Walker Johnson Cahill Jagielka Smalling Jones Cole Baines Walcott Townsend Gerrard Lampard Barkley Carrick Wilshere Milner Rooney Welbeck Carroll Sturridge Not the team I want but oh well.
Well, you can all write Walcott out. Arsenal just announced he has torn his knee ligaments. On their official website, Arsenal say he will be out for a minimum of six months.
Agree with that, but maybe have Sterling in there as well? Maybe Shaw too (bias!), and I'd think about Sturridge who, ignoring his England form, has been excellent. Rodriguez over Welbeck if he keeps up his form and Welbeck loses his form, or even starting place when RVP comes back.
No doubt he'll find some way to attend and limp around in the style of Beckham/Rooney. Bit of a blow to be honest, he was quite handy in the Euros.
Absolutely gutted for Theo, he really looked like he was improving this season. He is starting to fulfill his potential and then this happens! Olly, if you don't think theo can add anything to the England side after reading the following then you are clueless mate: “@OptaJoe: 33 - Since the start of 12/13, Theo Walcott scored or assisted 33 PL goals (19 goals, 14 assists)"
