Just in from the game today lads, what a player Martin Kelly is, phenomenally good and is only going to get better, can be a beast for us. Gerrard in full flow was glorious, a couple of staggering box to box moments from him today. Shame Agger had to go off he had a great game, looked really solid and won pretty much everything at the back (ok it was 'only' Oldham who aren't the best or tallest team in the world), was a bit of a general at the back. Apart from his goal (beautiful finish) Aspas was terrible, anonymous and most of the crowd agreed with me. In the first half we were too flat up front there was no point to the attack and little movement, especially from Aspas. Moses seems to be scared of shooting, so many times today when he was clear to snoot he opted for another touch and another... very frustrating player, makes some good runs though. Great to see Toure too, has that experience and calmness about him, good awareness and reader of the game too, was telling Cissokho where to put himself a lot. Second half the changes added some urgency to everything, Coutinho changed the game, just has class all over him that one, Lucas coming on gave us a better flow and tempo too. Sterling woke up, such a pacy player and looks to be getting stronger. After we went 2-0 up Oldham just resorted to trying to beat us up and pull shirts. Suarez took what looked like an elbow to the face, same old same old. Not our greatest game this season, first half was tedious, lots of possession and nothing to show. But damn, Martin Kelly. P.S. The Oldham fans are brilliant, really noisy and put us to shame a bit today, the Kop was loud but the Main and Centenary stands are like classrooms.
Always rated Kelly, more solid defensively than Johnson. As we are struggling at left back at the moment why not Kelly RB and Johnson LB
Obviously, I've only seen the 5m 22s on the ITV highlights but Kelly looked pretty impressive on there. I'm assuming he played at RB too?
He's just got real presence on the pitch, he's an intelligent player, he's also f*cking tall but quick, all over the place at pace. Hope his injury probs are very much behind him, he took a knock today but fortunately got back up, went off and came on again. He also banged heads with an Oldham player, Kelly just carried on, no problem, the Oldham player acted like he'd had a grand piano dropped on him. Tough fella.
Hmmm, missing? The fact he went off at half time speaks for itself, he has good feet and can be skilful but doesn't actually offer or do much. Not sure what his job is really.
Players returning from injury are prone to knocks, aches and pains, we just need tog et a run of games for him. If anyone can, our physio's can considering the job they've done with Gerrard, Johnson and Agger.
I can assure you that is about the funniest thing I've heard today and I've sat through over an hour of Man U fans ringing up 5 Live and Talksport this evening on the way home. Henderson and Gerrard were controlling things in the centre.
One other point I should have made was about Brad Jones. That guy, on today at least, is a total liability. They show the 'punch' attempt on the highlights but not the ensuing mayhem that his poor decision to do that caused for our defence. He is also really nervy and indecisive with the ball at his feet, takes too many touches, a couple of times today he nearly gave it away by fannying around. Hope he doesn't play for us again and we bring in better back up soon as.
The Main and Centenary Stands are always the same Agree Kelly played well but it was Hendo who stood out for me today. His through balls are the most improved part of his game and yet again he was pinging them around almost at will. Unfortunately every time he passed to the forwards they didn't have a clue what to do with it (first half especially). Not sure if Moses can't be arsed or he's just a bag of ****e. Aspas wasn't quite as bad as terrible but he was average at best. He just doesn't have a stand out element to his game which is going to be his biggest obstacle to staying at Anfield. The centre backs certainly won't have many easier days, almost every set piece Oldham had they wasted criminally so nice for them to get a rest for 90 mins....just a shame that even after an easy game Agger still manages to pick up an injury.
Good shot stopper but useless in the air and poor with the ball at his feet....can't imagine where I've heard that before this season
