If he can survive the thrashing at Forest it could prove a clever move by the fat one.Swansea may also pay the price of too many games.Surely Gus must realise that only prem survival is important. With injuries and suspensions and zero transfer kitty surely it makes sense to concentrate on a few league games and not risk players in cup matches which are highy unlikely to bring a trophy to the club.
If Burnley come up and stay up they could effectively be a "bigger" club than those going down this year.
Leeds are falling away season by season.
In Scotland Celtic are hoping they might be able to spend 6 mill on a player.
Money is King.Only Prem survival brings in enough money.

I'm ok going with begrudgingly going down to the championship next year as we'll be winning both the League and FA cups this year.

    I have lost my mind.

There's nothing smart about conceding 5 against a lower league team especially when your job is already at risk <doh>. Are you suggesting he threw the match? ****e thread mate. Either a failed wum thread or you're boring.

Suggesting that IF he survives it could prove a great strategy for WHU to stay up and prosper.Playing many 1st teamers at this stage could prove disasterous to the relegation strugglers. His problem will be if the owners bow to pressure from the fans.
It is highly unlikely that teams like Hull and you will win silverware so to risk losing the money spinner to beat the likes of Boro or Carlisle may in hindsight be silly

I disagree. A winning mentality is paramount. To me if you are going on lose on purpose then why should the players bother on league matches. Call me naive but I still believe players want to appear in a cup final and play at wembley.

What the **** has this got to do with us? And I do believe we've got a much much better chance at winning silverware then you lot.

Doesn't mean we're going to of course. Lots of teams PL teams have gone out the FA cup already. Potential cup runs on the cards for likes of us and Hull. Birmingham, swansea and wigan proves that Pearson Park is talking bollocks, the domestic cups are the Only way clubs like us will win silverware. He might be happy never winning anything but I'm not. What about you?

If you end up a yo yo team in the lower leagues I do not think you will feel the same way.Ask any Pompey fan if the cup was worth their present and foreseeable future

I go to see my team win regardless of what competition it is in. If I thought they had deliberately lost I would demand my money back from the club.

We've been a yo yo team for most of our existence. <doh> Pompy were also financially mismanaged. Different situation entirely. Even your comparisons are poor.

Pompey overspent its as simple as that. So did we in trying to stay in the premier league the last time round.

Sorry Funk I was not meaning between the upper leagues.See Sheffield clubs these days. They also have great local support but are unfashionable therefore when losing the tele money are knackered.
If tragedy can hit a big club like Leeds I think clubs the size of yourselves and Sheff utd should take serious note

You can stay up and do well in the cups.

Gus played a rotated side today. He's not stupid

Again, Leeds were mis-financed. Why are you comparing us to Shefield Utd? When was the last time they were a premiership regular? Hardly a fall from the top is it.

What's the point of all this? Yes we understand cups can hinder teams when they're struggling in the league. Everyone knows that so what is your point?

Good number of the players that were first choice won't be after January anyway, so it's a moot point, but no, I don't think Sam is smart at all, I think he just nailed his own coffin.

We played a few fringe players & also gave some young lads a valuable run out, I'd say Gus was spot on today.

I tell you this too, I'd take a cup & relegation, safe in the knowledge of a multi-billionaire owner with his head screwed on, no risk of a Pompey here.
