Well, after that dispiriting FA Cup tie...who needs that anyway? I write to give you all a quick update. I met with the Suffolk Punch Trust President, Chairman & Stud manager/horse handler on 30th December. Came away feeling very positive and convinced that our plans are very do-able. They are enthusiastic, realistic and keen to go ahead. the Chief Exec is writing to the Club to also request a meeting. They are clearly well used to all the technicals and public events, like the Lord Mayor's Show last year etc. The ITFC Supporter's chairman is also keen to support, and attend such a meeting. The Club event & charity person has advised that the whole plan is on the agenda of the next Directors' meeting in February. I was pleased to be taken out to fields and meet one or two of these magnificent beasts. Goodness they are big...17 hands to you and me! We are now tempted to move back to Suffolk after enjoying a good post Xmas break up there ..I miss the place, the people and the superb skies and landscapes. And of course, would get to see more games! And managed to celebrate with plenty of Adnams!
Thanks ptc...I think we are on the home straight, subject to a. Club agreeing to a meeting with all the key characters. b. The health & safety passing muster. c. The technicals being practical, do-able and not too expensive for the Trust to organise. They would seek at minimum to have their parading costs covered, which is fair enough. No-one has attempted to work out what funding potential there is for them...at, say, two appearances with said Horse twice a month in season. But with 15,000 home gate, they should make a few bob, even with old-fashioned bucket shaking outside each stand....if the Club permit them. But thats down the line.
I think it's safe to say gaffer the work you've put in and the responses all around have been outstanding. When this comes off,and I say when, you deserve all the plaudits and guest of honour status for the first parade. A mass round of applause from all on here is in order.
Mads, SD and ptc, thank you!...I enjoying doing this stuff, its just poushing the right buttons and doors, and Hampy & co have been very helpful on the Punch google group. I would rather an Ipswich young boy or girl fan got the 1st ride...if a wagon is practical, accompanied by their hero of course! Mads...same Q as on tother thread...what is your white horse in cartoon at end of your post saying?!
Well done all involved even if it doesn't work out as hoped it has been a great effort by those involved. Do any of you think we could organise a coup next to take over the football club and put it back into the fans hands??
