I think we will lose 3-1 here. I hate to be negative but I think we are having a bit of a wobble.

If Pellegrini get's his numbers mixed up again we might have a chance <laugh>
Man city play lovely football but can also be there for the taking.
I would be happy with a draw.

Play the way we did yesterday and it'll be known as the 'Slaughter at St.Jame's Park'.

I'd take anything out of this. They are red hot when playing their first team and appear to have also resolved their away day issues. 1-4 would be a good result <laugh>

Bad time to play Man City right now without Champions League, be interesting how much of a priority the Cups are for Pellegrini. City to win 3-0.

I would gladly take a point, however, I fear another straight defeat making it 4 in a row. On top of that there's no guarantee we'll beat West Ham either.

If Pards keeps on the way he's going, there's no guarantee we'll beat anybody as long as he's here.

Bloody hell. Even with the last two league defeats we've still been showing top four form since the beginning of November.

    Last 11.jpg

I'm not suggesting that we're top 4 material but this thread is starting to sound like we're bottom of the league. We're having a good league campaign but we've had a **** seven days. We'll probably lose this next one but then again we've actually been doing relatively well against the top teams this year. Either way, all this does is balance out that we're probably a top 8 team and not a top 4 team. It's hardly a crisis and a lot better than a lot of our recent history.

Pardew will bang on about how he likes his teams to "play on the front foot" but we won't.

We'll set up exactly like we did against Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal and pretty much every away game but on this occasion will result in a loss IMO.

City are there to be got at. If we let them have the ball they will win like they have in their last three visits to our place. We've tried the "sit back" approach against them and it doesn't work.

We should go for it from the off. If we sit back we'll probably lose anyway. I'd go 4-3-3 but I'd play Remy on the left even if it means Gouffran starting up top. I personally think Remy was much more effective playing from the left earlier in the season compared to the last 5/6 games where he's played centrally.

I agree with this. The likelihood is we'll get a hammering like nearly everyone else has. You might as well go down blazing rather than sit and wait for a slow death. The backs to the wall approach has never worked for us so maybe a high tempo pressure on the ball attack minded approach may serve us better. I'm not saying that I expect to win or even take a point from it, but just we will have a better chance with this approach. They might have an off day, the only way to take advantage of that is through pressure.

Also I have been discussing this Remy thing with mates. We need him back out left asap, his form dropped off when pushed through the middle. It is pretty obvious he is better coming from deeper when he gets to open his legs and run at the defence. I understand because Gouffran had shown some fine form. I'd ask Goufran to go through the middle. This is why we are crying out for a striker. To make the best of all of our options.

This all the way. It's funny how everyone seemed to overlook the fact we'd have beaten West Brom with Debuchy still on the field, deserved a point from the Arsenal match and hit the woodwork twice vs Cardiff. Hell, a far, far bigger club than ours had the same result against the Welsh!!!

Agree, we're not top 4, but we're a fine line away when on form with our strongest XI. When we finished 16th we were getting fcking hammered by Sunderland, Liverpool and Wigan. Problem I have is at what point we'll just contentedly get on with it?!

Imo if we don't buy a striker, need to put Cisse back in. He's scored 2 in his last two outings, maybe his confidence will have increased? Remy doesn't work alone up top, he's not that kind of player, and as much as I love Shola, he's not a starting player. It's a tricky situation because arguably all of Gouf, Sissoko and Aninta deserve to be in the team ahead of Cisse but we need a striker on the pitch. Better yet sign someone, but if we don't, we need to utilise what we have.

Cissé was fantastic when he first came, that ability can't have vanished over night. He's been taken out of the firing line but now we need him back.

This will never happen with our fanbase. Even when we finished 5th or have been doing well this season, there have always been hung up on the bad periods. It seems a depressing outlook to have to me but each to their own.

You know, this is a really good point and goes hand in hand with Hacky's comment that Remy's got a bit 'worse' since being CF instead of "LWF". But this could only work if Pardew was comfortable with the formation; is Remy going to put in a Gouffran shift? Is Santon given enough protection with Remy ahead of him? I don't know. Arguably we need Gouffran AND Remy, with a CF of quality. Cisse used to be good, why can't he be given another go now that our identity is a bit clearer?

Problem we have is the squad needs refreshing. We can't fit them all in at the same time, Ben Arfa probably the biggest name to mention.

I am hoping we won't get a hammering but it will most likely happen. I am going to be slightly more postive and believe we will only lose 1-3.

If he starts with useless bastards like Shola it could get really ****ing messy and if we are starting with the likes of him we deserve to get roundly thrashed.

For me it's 4-5-1 again, best XI we can play is Krul, Debuchy, Willo, MYM, Santon, Sissoko, Anita, Tiote, Cabs, Remy, Cisse. Gouff needs a break, Remy needs to go wider, Cisse needs a vote of confidence. This 4-5-1 gives us our best structure, and strongest attacking threat without watching Ben Arfa make a fool out of himself.
