Porto's Jackson Martinez seems to be chasing a move to Arsenal. ‘I cheered for Arsenal when I was a kid – I love their style of play,’ said Martinez to reporters. ‘It’s flowing and open with a lot of first touch passes. It would be suitable for a player like me. If I get a chance to play for a high level club like Arsenal I wouldn’t hesitate to accept it.’ I'm a big fan and would love to see this guy in an Arsenal shirt. He is quick, aggressive and a good finisher. He's also a different kind of forward to Giroud so would give us options.
He's over 6ft, and is scoring a lot of goals at the moment. He's a definitive 1 in 2 striker over his career - and decidedly better than that recently. He signed for Porto for $11m in July 2012, which isn't much! Worth a bid of 15 / 20m? If he's fast and aggressive there's always the chance to play him wide as a wing forward as well if necessary.
Fail are reporting that we may make a bid for Mandzukic if the expected deal for Lewandowski goes ahead. This is exactly the type of player that we should be going for http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Bendtner-feared-two-months.html#ixzz2pNa9QOkQ
He scores a decent amount of goals and is the type of player who would work well with our current system, he is also a winner, having won 3 consecutive croation league titles (2 of which where also cup doubles) and with Bayern won everything there is to win, All 3 German domestic trophies, the CL and european super cup and the Club World Cup to top it off. He will have that winning mentality which is what we need in the squad. Would be a good signing i think.
Would be happy, guy is criminally underrated, big, powerful, decent technique, works his socks off and can finish. Suits the current system, and should be quite cheap.
Mandzukic still seems unlikley. Why would Bayern sell him? Is the Lewandowski deal actually finalised?? If so he certainly wont be arriving until the Summer. Why would Bayern sell there first choice CF in January when their replacement doesnt arrive until June/July?? Also I agree with Wengers optician. Mandzukic is VERY simular to Giroud in style. I would prefer a quick skillful goalscorer like Martinez, Suarez, Falcao or even Benzema
Bayern might sell Mandzukic because Lewandowki is joining them. He's announced that he'd signed a 5 year contract with them. It's not going to happen until the summer though, so that's when we'd have to make any move for Mandzukic, they won't sell in January. I don't want us to buy Benzema, I've seen nothing that suggests he'd be an upgrade on what we've currently got. Mandzukic might be similar to Giroud, but that's a good thing in the system we play with one up top supported by two wing forwards. The alternative is a 4-1-4-1 like we saw against the spuds, but in that system we can use Walcott or Podolski up front. Personally I think Mandzukic would be a great buy. We aren't going to get Suarez and I think Falcao would be out of our price range, but Martinez would be a good acquistion.
WHEN Lewan is coming in, definitely, not this January as all the reports are suggesting. That is a very accurate post, spot on
I haven't read any reports of him coming in January. I think most were making the assertion that it would be in the summer when Lewandowski joins Bayern. But it's all a bit speculative anyway. I'd definitely like him at Arsenal though and it seems like a realistic signing to me.
In terms of ABILITY Benzema is an upgrade on Giroud. Would he work as hard and be as effective?..I dont know. If the old Benzema from Lyon or Madrid 2011 - 2012 Season returned then YES. Seeing as Benzema is only just 26 and Wenger has a history of getting strikers to perform I think he would be a quality addition. He's potentially World Class. Quick, aggressive and a an excellent finisher. Also he makes alot of goals for himself. When You look at the 'quality' of his goals it's clear he's technically considerably better than Olivier. I would choose Jackson martinez over him though as I think he's less of a risk and more of a 'team player'.
