    I don't think he was sacked by Bolton, was he? I think he left. Big Fat Sam was one of the earlier managers to embrace sports science in the game, while at Bolton. He started to make a name for himself by bringing in some top quality players towards the end if their careers such as Jay Jay Okacha, Hierro and the French World Cup winner. I believe he the. We t too far with his use of statistics in football and began to believe that he could be successful using this method. The rest of football caught up in terms of sports science in the game, and Sam started to rely more and more on the stats.

    The scariest stat may just be that we were one BBC documentary away from having him as England manager. Phew!

    In all honesty, were I a West Ham fan I'd be seriously concerned right now - with the Olympic Stadium, debt and possible relegation, they really could get themselves in some Pompey style bother if they're not careful. Or at least "do a Leeds"......
