Simple question, with Leeds about to make an offer.. for money.... is it worth us putting a counter proposal to Hull?

Or? has this Swede come in to replace Stewart?

    <cheers>

He's got a great first touch, and he does draw defenders away from Wiggins, but his crossing is usually overhit, he doesn't get in the box much, scores the occasional worldy from just outside the box but too much of the time promises more than he achieves. I don't know why he only plays on the left, he seems much better on the right, but since CP only plays him on the left it's a No from me.
    Don't think you voted, Mike?

Massive player for us. Brings the best out of wiggins, scores goals, brings the ball forward. Lightweight, yes. A good player - yes

No from me. Prior to the takeover I'd have said yes, just, on the basis that we have no money and he's better than anything else we've got in the LM position despite being right footed - I've been blaming CP for this but I gather (from CL!) that CS has said he prefers playing on the left. But as we are clearly going to be bringing in players its a "no" from me mainly because he p's me off bottling out of tackles. All in all he's not the worst I've seen dahn ahr grahnd but I think we can do better.

I don't get players who don't want to play in their best position. Jerome Thomas was another- even when Curbs put him on the right he insisted on cutting in and trying to chip it with his left. Curbs also knew that Konchesky was better LM but he insisted he wanted to play LB. When Stewart played on the right against Donny he was a revelation, my MOM, but apparently he prefers to be on the left. Why?

I wouldn't take him on a free, let alone pay for him, although he has more natural talent than most of our squad. He is essentially a forward. He contributes little in midfield and nothing in defence. Kermit is insufficient as a goalscorer, that means we have to play another striker. To play Stewart as well means only three in midfield, not enough in most games.

So get rid of Stewart and get in a proper left-midfielder. We were at our best first half of the promotion season when Jackson was revelling in that position. Get rid of Green too. Same reasoning.

Persist with Harriott because he is still young and could yet develop into a striker playing off a big CF. Jones preferred to play him in a "wandering striker" role. The only reason he didn't settle in that position is that we also had to make room for Pigott, Azeez and often Smith in the two striker positions. Also we were so much better than most of our u21 opponents we could afford to play with three forwards. That won't wash in the Championship.

Interesting that no other wingers have emerged from the juniors. I don't know if that is just luck of the draw, or that Hart and Jones agree with me that "pure" wingers are dinosaurs in the modern game. Of course, if you get a really talented "natural" winger then you use them as a winger, but they are very rare, and it may be that the academy is not focusing its resources on finding or developing one.

    Interesting viewpoint Eddie.

You've probably stated your opinion on him thousands of times and I've probably read it hundreds of times but where do you stand on Danny Green?

In my opinion he is a 'natural' winger; if he had a touch more consistency he'd be a weapon in the Championship.

I do agree though, with the role of full backs effectively being wing backs now, the art of the traditional winger has been lost - conventional central midfielders are often deployed there if only for balance.

I would still advocate playing Yann in a free role on the left (particularly as it might alleviate the threat of hoofball!).

I would like to see Stewart playing up alongside Kermit, Church needs to be in the 6 yard box to have any chance of scoring whereas Stewart can score from anywhere near the penalty box and has the pace to scare central defenders.

No from me, can't cross, plays on the left despite his lack of a left foot, bottles tackles, as Eddie says, wouldn't take him on a free.

I would take him and would maybe pay 200k for him, yes he is inconsistent but he has been by far our most attacking threat overall this season, the difficult thing to change with wingers such as Stewart would be that they are often double up on allowing Wiggins to get more threat which is good and bad, so we should also base his contribution on Wiggins contribution too. I would 100% take him on a free - depending on wages

I remember the 2009-10 season when Richardson had a storming season for us..... it was little Lloyd Sam who was double marked every game who created the space for Frazer <ok>

He is indeed. You write "if", and it always "if" and "if only" with him. He has had enough chances. It is just not going to happen. Not for us, anyway. But I do think he is physically tough enough to survive in the First Division (unlike, say, Cook, Bover or Kerkar) so maybe he can find a home there. I welcomed Green because I thought he would resume a productive partnership with Benson, but about the time Green arrived Benson dropped out of the picture.

That is a point I forgot to include in my post above. We have less need for wingers than any club in the Championship because we have a great pair of attacking full-backs who, when fully fit and on decent pitches, seem to be able to keep it up for 90 minutes.

I don't agree with that. It doesn't have to be hoofball. Yann is very good on the ground. His ability to fight for loose balls in the air is a useful additional asset but should never be our Plan A, and though I am a Powell supporter I am disappointed at how often we relapse into hoofball. Even if the players are disregarding his instructions that still reflects badly on him. We need Yann centrally to score goals and to direct play because we don't have a real "schemer".

oh wow. 8-7 in favour of yes (i voted yes). reason i said yes as he's been a regular, scored as many as he's expected to considering how good we are at the moment, hasnt cost us a penny and is better than anything else we've got.

plus he's young. the harriotts is also young, but he cant/wont pass.

No, I'd rather have both Harriotts in the side than Stewart. He has been a threat, but too inconsistent and can't cross, plus the defensive concerns already raised. Would probably take him back on loan to the end of the season, but that's it.

I've voted no... We've brought this Swede in and from some YouTube clips although he doesnt have much pace (Doesnt do much running) but he can certainly control the ball and has an eye for a good pass, him and Kermo will get on well I reckon

Its a resounding 'no' from me, with knobs on.

Poor final ball, no left foot whatsoever, and a bottler.

Sounds like Danny Green in fact <wah>

I've always thought that Greeny had a reasonable cross on him..... Greeny's big problem is that he has absolutely no pace whatsoever!

Not sure about the no left foot comment which has come up a few times. I've seen him cross with it several times, one that comes to mind is the assist for Jackson at yeovil. Absolute menace of a cross.
