As a young lad, like all fans at the time, I loved the World Cup, and my country were never in it in that era. Also loved the fa cup to the same extent. With all the money in the game now, to me it seems players don't care much about playing in cups or for their national sides either. With this years World Cup in Brazil, no average Footie fan from Europe will be able to afford to travel. Add to that the likely half arsed approach of many of the top players and the competition loses a lot of the glamour.
Final straw could be the one scheduled for the far east

    Spot on Eire

Fans all over the world have been stitched up by the "ruling bodies" for both Football and Olympics. Blatter (to be followed by Platini) have all "sorted" the system to keep power. The 2 World Cup venues sorted out last time by Blatter was a blatant fix.

They even investigate their own supposed "crimes"

    Fans don't count at all.

I largely agree with you, Eire, but cite Scotland as the exception. Our players would kill to pull on a jersey. If for some far fetched reason we qualified (and we accept it's a forlorn hope), we'd still take thousands to the finals, even if they were in Siberia in the winter. As long as there's football & beer, we'll be there for a party, lose or lose!

Thought you Irish had the same view, tbh. What's happened to change it? No Big Jack?

    I agree.

I think that the champions league trophy is considered the most elite trophy above the world cup these days by the average european footballer at least. Think it is different for the "smaller" countries and probably south american countries as well. I completely blame blatter for it though, he ****ed it up and it will take so long to try and repair that

    totally agree

TBH really can't be bothered with the FA cup these days and haven't seen a final since pompey Vs Cardiff. To be fair I don't think I'll watch the world cup live at all. Putting it in Brazil wasn't the best idea not only due to the time zones but because nobody in Europe can aafford to go to BRazil and don't forget the gang violence.

It's all good flying it to different part of the world but after this we've got Russia (Corrupt) and Qatar nobody is going to go. Blatter has really ****ed up the World Cup. Give it 3 or 4 more tournaments and nobody will care.

It's the WORLD Cup! Can't just consider how easy a location is to get there for European fans. Plus it's good for the equality of the competition for the locations to be spread about, as climate obviously is a big factor as to the chances of a nation doing well in the tournament.

True, but the selection of Qatar is indefensible.
