Funny - that's not at all how I remember Payton. He always ran his nut off. Now Keith Edwards - THERE was a man who could disappear for 89 minutes before winning you a game!
There are some posters who are respected and seen as being in the know but who've often been wrong. BCC to my knowledge has always been right with his info and it isn't just stupid things like players we're already linked with. When Barmby got sacked and our interest in Jakupovic seemed to cool, he kept saying we'd already agreed a deal and he'd still be coming. He also said the £2.6m for Proschwitz was bollocks lony before the papers officially said it.
Bit precious that; are you speaking for all the Reading fans - did they all tell you his goals were unwanted, or is it just a sweeping statement? What's the crap about wiki, stats are stats and that is all that is quoted - seems like you're just trying to make a smartass remark and adding nothing. It's all an hypothetical argument in a discussion, it's about the type of player and his price range - you get what you pay for and we need goals.
The Sunderland fans didn't rate Meyler or Elmo and said they couldn't cut it in the PL. Ones I know are also telling me Fletcher is leaving cos he's had a row with backroom staff plus management and they also don't rate him cos his legs are too thin and break on slightest contact. Personally I think some players are better under different managers/in different teams, some are awesome regardless and some are just not good enough. I haven't seen enough of Fondre or Fletcher to make an opinion on either, but I do trust Bruce knows what he's doing.
Of course I'm not speaking for all Reading fans, I just read lots of clubs boards and the overall view on theirs is that he's crap when he starts, but can be a decent impact sub. My point about wiki, was simply that(according to the Reading fans), his stats are more impressive than his football. I haven't seen enough of him to have any opinion myself, I'm just passing on the comments of those who watch him every week.
You'd get what you're paying for with Adam Le Fondre for around 500k - 1m. He's really not very good, so not very good that he can't even get in to Readings championship side. Ignore the goals, he's nowhere near premier league standard. Anthony Wilson has been banging them in for Ferriby, why don't we sign him? Goals are goals.
I thought that when he signed Proschwitz and Graham, let's hope he got all the **** strikers out of his system now...
I have looked a little deeper, so let's look more closely at Adam Le Fondre (Alfie): Back in the summer this was a key view from Reading supporters: http://thetilehurstend.sbnation.com/2013/4/23/4255996/adios-alfie-reading-fc-adam-le-fondre-premier-league-transfers That seems to echo my point about his impact from the bench (as our second signing) or even as an improved line-leader under new coaching staff. His assists are not great, but so are those of so many strikers - the better all of the aspects of his game the bigger the price. One thing is a fact, he is not injury prone and he scores goals, and that is exactly what we need. How much have we got to spend and what sort of a mix do you want? Have a read of these on not606 Reading: http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/230838-Billy-Sharp
Not all think that way and the way he is played might have a great deal to do with it - no creative MF and no one creating assists - we have all of that and hopefully more to come - it's the finisher we lack and they have three (apparently) and he is the best.
Your post is too long to quote Fez, but I really disagree. I don't think we create chances at all, when was the last time we had a player through one on one, how often do our strikers find the ball at their feet in the box with a good sight of goal? We very rarely dominate games, when we play 2 up both strikers are heavily involved in chasing down, harrying, holding up and linking up, even more so when we play one up, I think you could count on one hand the amount of games we could afford the luxury to carry someone who won't contribute to any of that. We also have Fryatt starting to get a run out, who is very similar in style to ALF in regards to sniffing out those dangerous positions to get into, but is also a better player, slightly more rounded and can contribute well to linking up. I just don't think ALF is good enough at this level and would be a waste of money when we already have someone to play his role; its a job that doesn't need filling. Beckford had a similar record playing the same sort of role as ALF in his season in the PL, but he wouldn't improve us either.
I knew about this when the deal was done, then I posted the facts about this on another forum then 3/4 days later the Yorkshire Post ran the story
In Bruce's interview after the WBA game he alluded to the fact that WBA as an established Prem side were able to bring on subs that can change a game, which infers we can't. I think ALF would fit that scenario nicely
You just come across as someone full of ****, maybe that's why? You also make sweeping claims, which you should be able to back up.
I meant I'm the only poster who said the ALF story. I was saying about Quinn not being 300k months before the media ran it and people openly mocked me on here. I really don't think I make 'sweeping statements' at all, they're very specific. I didn't say 'an unnamed player refused to speak to us', I couldn't have been any clearer who I meant. And do you really expect me to name my source who continually gives me what is proven to be correct information?
Probably second only to Ku De Ta on this board that quote. Oh wait, we will definitely be publishing the minutes. Thats my second fave, then BCC's.
