Impsaint, I think you may have missed the point, well mine anyway. Nowhere have I said (and haven't read anyone else say it) tit for tat is ok. I think most sitting in my corner are saying that unless something else comes out that is a different, really bad set of words, then this is nothing and we may look a bit silly as a club raising a complaint.

Jeez, it's a throw away comment (until we here something else) and it is not bad really. Let's sack the refs and use robots.

Some people must be so pure it is frightening. I must be from a bad generation. I will say now, that if nothing else comes out, then I am a little embarrassed by the complaint and we are in for some serious stick. We are going to go from everyone's favourite second team, to the one they love to laugh at very quickly.

PS. Impsaint, I love the way half way through your post, you throw in the "it was a penalty" cry. Are you really Ads undercover?? I argued at the time we could have had that as a penalty, but FFS, we didn't get it and we are really beginning to look like petulant fans and if the facts don't change (big IF, as I do want to hear the clubs side with some actual quoted words) then the club will look like that too.

I'd also like to add that there will be melt down when we have a player sent off for swearing on a football pitch. I wouldn't mind a bet that we'll be the next club to have that happen to us now.

No, but you'd think if there was a large discrepancy it would have been mentioned? Perhaps not, who knows.

Even bigger melt down if Saints are proved right and Clattenburg is shown as saying it more aggresively or the statement was false. Would be funny with all the crap being said about our club or Lallana.

Here's hoping. As was mentioned before, a side effect of this being we'll go from "people's second club" and Adam as someone everybody likes, to figures of fun and abuse. Would be a shame.

Just for a bit of clarity, it was definitely not Adam Lallana that made the complaint, it was initiated from the Club itself. Had this not been blown out of proportion like it has, would it have been any different if the Clottenburg comment been picked up and gone viral on Facebook, Adam would have been on the end of numerous jibes from all over, and that is the point of making it an issue, if it is true what Clot said, did he stop to think of the repurcussions? Until I hear actual proof I am supporting my Club and my player, if I am proved to be wrong I will apologise and bite the bullet.

I hope it is that way, I really do, and my posts have had an "if' in them. I am probably getting wound up by the approach some are taking about the ref if it was this way.

    The situation is not:

Player says something to referee, referee gets angry. Ref says something that hurts players feeling. Player complains about it.

    It's:

Team feels the ref is not calling the game fairly. Ref makes unprofessional remark to player leading team to believe the ref might be biased. Team complains about it, citing the unprofessional remark as evidence.

I get where you are coming from, but I just can't see Saints going this far over what has deemed to be said.

I am looking forward to the Arsenal v Tottenham game, it could be a cracker, the managers comments afterwards will be well documented methinks! It being a 17:30 ko means I will miss the start, just hope the traffic isn't too bad and I can watch most of it, I don't actually care who wins, just lots and lots of controversy will please me.

Totally agree with this. The nature of the Saints complaint is the general performance of Clattenburg. It's just that naturally the media have latched on to the Lallana remark and made that the focal point. Having said that the club have made a mistake with their official statement today which again centred around the remark and not the overall complaint.

Personally I think it's petty to complain about officials and you always hope your club is above that, but this is no worse than the recent comments from Brendan Rogers and managers up and down the country every week.

I blame this situation on the FA originally giving into Everton and not allowing Clattenburg to referee there for six years as it's sent a dangerous precedent.

I'm disappointed in the clubs complaint, but I understand the frustration. Clattenburg gave a terrible decision up at Norwich last season. Ultimately that didn't cost us after the great save from Boruc, but when Pochettino spoke to the ref on the pitch after the match(video evidence proves he was not aggressive) Saints ended up getting a huge fine and Clattenburg goes unpunished.

Another point to consider is the timing of Clattenburgs remark. If he said it whilst he was in the process of booking Lallana for dissent then that is far worse than just a general bit of banter at the half way line whilst discussing a decision. Such a comment would likely wind someone up rather diffuse it with some lighthearted micky taking.

I'm sure Lallana will get a lot of "You've changed" comments around the training ground now <laugh>

I am a tad annoyed that I missed that stupid closed thread/Poll set up by a Manure supporter who lives in Rochester, there was some good source of showing real embarrassment in that context!

Don't tell me you are still annoyed that we thrashed you 4 - 1 with the said embarrassment scoring a worldy against you, surely not sour grapes by any chance?

Absolutely not. You played superbly that day; we were rightly stuffed and Lallana's goal was a joy to behold, even for an opposing fan. This has got nowt to do with club politics and everything to do with a club and a player further devaluing the game by acting like crying little girls.
