I have sympathy with ellwoods on this. Aluko is very injury prone, i don't feel much optimism that his days with the physio are over, because of his style of play he does get kicked a lot. However, as for an appearance based contract, i doubt he would have accepted one, and then we would have lost him anyway. As i've already said, it really is fingers crossed on this one. Good luck to Sone, and to us
I don't think you can say that Davies and Thudd are 'better' than Aluko, in certain areas Aluko is far better than both. Remember THE goal at Newcastle? Could you honestly see Davies or Thudd pulling that one off? But then Aluko is hardly likely to win tackles like Davies or spray passes like Thudd. They are all good at what they do, as is Livermore, in fact individually they are the best in the squad at what each of them do, but that doesn't make one player better than the other, not for me anyway, they're part of a team, and would be pretty much stuffed without their team mates! Personally I just cannot wait to see them get a consistent run of games together, because once they build up an understanding they'll be deadly.
I'm delighted but we really don't want him cropping up more injuries. Cameron Stewart looked the deal a couple of seasons ago until he got crocked and was never the same afterwards.. Aluko is on another level to him though so he's an important player, put him up top with Sagbo..
I agree with ellewoods on this one. He is a good player but unfortunately for Citys bank balance he hasnt played enough. I agree he gets the crowd excited but not from the treatment table he doesnt. I hope I am wrong (and I will gladly eat humble pie) but I am seeing another Bullard (excepting Aluko is not a ****). But, after saying all of this I trust SB judgement. IMO he has only really got Prossy wrong.
Well Worth the risk if you ask me. We wouldn't have got promoted last season if we didn't have him for the first half of it so he paid his dues there and I'm sure he will put in enough performances over 2 and half years even if they are crammed in to 1 and half
it's a shame we feel so hesitant about aluko as do i, he's extremely talented but so injury prone, but he's signed now and let's hope he has a good run of injury free times! could be a goood player for the last 2 months of the season or so
The thing I dont get is, how did he pass the medical to sign a contract despite missing probably half the games during his 2 year deal and Charlie Austin - who has hadly missed a game all season for DQPR - didnt?
Hard I know, but we need to forget the injuries; he has done the hard stuff and is just as likely to break down as anyone else in the squad. Injuries caused by knocks attributed to his playing style are part and parcel of him as a player; if you worried about that you would never sign anyone. An insistance on an appearance based contract would have sent him elsewhere; you've got to look at the overall value for money and we will have got that. I am certain we have not seen the best of this lad yet; who we sign in as a striker will make the signing magic, although Aluko and Sagbo could be top drawer. A huge positive so early in the window.
Huddlestones had his injury problems in the past so do the people on here who think we shouldn't have just handed Aluko this contract also think the same about Huddlestone?? Bet you don't to be fair buts whats the difference really.......
Good news...On his day and when fit Sone is class.. Whats this about Fryatt to Forest? Can't see it happening, unless we got a forward lined up.. What about Super Dan on a permanent from the Mackems. Or Long from the Baggies.
The fact that Aluko initially turned the the contract down says a lot in my opinion. Especially when you consider he missed a lot of games last season.
All i am saying is that Aluko is only looking after himself (as we all do tbf). He was prepared to leave (hence turning the contract down) and has now decided to stay. So for me its a choice of 1) City have offered better terms or 2) He realises his options arent as good when hes injured
To be fair this injury probably did play into City's hands with the contract issue but my point is Huddlestone did Ankle Ligament damage, had abit of a rep for been injured alot but i bet no one was against giving him a 3 year deal here and rightly so. Gerrard use to have massive problems with his knees when he was young but bet Liverpool fans were not asking for him to be given an appearence based contract.
Aluko is only 24 and has had 4 surgeries 3 of which have been on his achiles. I doubt Aluko has been fit for even half the games since he signed with us. A knee injury is far far worse clearly. No one is asking Gerrard to be on an appearance based contract because like you said he had them when he was younger. Aluko is having them now. Huddlestones injuries was one of the main reasons Tottenham didnt want him anymore. A fit Aluko is a sight to see and when he takes the field for us we will have a better 11 on the pitch. I am sure the club used his injuries to our advantage when negotiating the contract. You are not going to convince me that I am wrong in being concerned about a player who is always injured or wanting an appearanced based contract. It isnt me being stupid or ignorant it is just me being concrened for the well being of the club as no one wants to be paying for a player who never plays.
