Ok - after much (more) thought and brow beating, I'm going to go with my proposal. Thanks for the various inputs. Blue - I hear you re the football type fixture list, but with 18 (ish) players, there would need to be 34 Saturdays, and that takes us well into the summer, where my own internet time is limited due to me always being out on jolly weekends! The scoring from now will be based on 3 points to the winner of the challenge, but nothing for the loser, except humiliation. Each challenger will nominate a race of at least 7 runners and name his selection first (same staking as previous) In a sop to the few of you who prefer flat racing, I'll allow the sand rats in *spit* I note the concern about races with a Hendo/Nichols hotpot, plus some hopefuls - but if it was THAT easy, I wouldn't be sitting here doing comps for you, I'd be on a beach somewhere, raising a glass to Mr W Hill The "C" denoted members will challenge the player above them, I haven't heard from Bob since this proposal was mooted, but have left his name in place. If he isn't playing then the bottom placed Jamba's challenge wil be to both Ron and Blue. Make it a good one Jamba! 1. Brough Tiger 2. Bucks C 3. Redcgull 4. Chaninbar C 5. Oddy 6 Reebok C 7. Steveo77 8. Uncle Cracker C 9. Smokethedeadbadger 10. Havinacow C 11. Cityhull 12. Sir Percy C 13. Mwildcats 14. Wooly C 15. Bluesky 16. Boston Bob C 17. Ron 18. Jambawamba C Obviously after just one week of this scoring the table will be split 50-50 with those on 3 points and those on zero, but don't worry, you zero's you WILL pick a winner one day! One important factor, is going to be "goal difference" for position when points are equal. This will be done by me keeping a total based on returns. Assuming you have any As always - good luck folks - and now I'm off to do some studying!
Ok - studying over! I'm challenging Oddy in the 14-50 Newcastle race, and I'm taking Dingo Bay to win Good luck mate PS: min race runners now 7 instead of 8, to take into account the propensity of 8 runner races always seeming to go off one shy!
Ok Reebs now if I understand this correctly I'm challenging Red, I nominate the the race and my pick. Wincanton 2.05 Tobylerone as it is one of the few chocolates I've not consumed during the Xmas festivities. Good luck Red
That's perfect Chan - I've backed that one myself at 7-2, and I HAVE eaten one of those, along with many others!
I can't prove it Oddy, but I provisionally put that in against your name!!! But mine has to win, where yours just needs to place!
Jambawamba and Bob, I may need be out at around 9.30am and so hopefully you will have your race up by then so I can participate tomorrow, otherwise may have to miss this week. In the comps previous guise I could have left a couple of selections on PM with Reebs had he set the race.
Reebs are we allowed races in ireland? Also what happens if the challenegr picks an odds on who wins and the other picks a horse that comes second but it returns more than the winner?
Blue is a defender Ron, he will play along with you against Jamba's choice. Obviously, you and he can pick the same horse if necessary as you are both defending against Jamba. Blue: It does make it a bit awkward with pre-selection now, I can only add that from now on challengers will have longer to plan their coup so I will have to be more vigilant against late challengers. And at the risk of being a bit dictatorial, I won't stand for deliberate gamesmanship!
Races from Ireland are allowed, the winner is the player with the greatest return, not just who gets the winner of the race
Maybe the challenger should name the race before a certain time if not the horse. Then the challenged could PM their choice and alternative (in the event the challenger selects the challenged's first choice). It would also give the challenged reasonable time to study the race.
Sorry for being late, just got in from work. Now i know the format will put up Friday evening. Anyway i like Wicklow Brave 1-00 Cork Good Luck everyone
Wincanton is off.. Try again please Wooly Reebs; Not sure how many times per day on a Saturday i can check whether Wooly has posted.. Then give myself a decent shot at picking the winner having to study the race as well; whilst at work then come on to post my selection.
No problem Jambawamba, didn't mean to rush you I was just needing to be out this morning so it's my fault. I will go for Synchronicity EW in that race, simply a dart as I know nothing of Irish racing aside from the grade 1's.
