No it was the award of a last minute penalty last season that pissed Pochettino off. It was Howard Webb who turned down the handball at Norwich this season.

FFS Saints. Thanks for making the club look stupid and whats probably worse, detracting from the main issue that Clattenburg is a **** referee.

May as well let this whole thing run its course and then judge.

At current, Saints complain to ref union, ref union defends ref.

Only had one side of it, in terms of the alleged comment.

It would be nice to hear Lallana's version of events, as it appears to be a lot of fuss over a relatively minor comment at the moment.
I can't stand Clattenburg but I'm not sure what action would be deemed appropriate against him if the reported quote is accurate.

Well, well, well... Interesting couple of turn of events.

Have to say my viewpoint hasn't actually altered. I agree with an earlier poster that said that what MC has said is worse than him calling lala a fu&king pr@ck or similar.

MC or any referee cannot publicly/verbally let their own feelings out and expect it to be ok. If lala jogged past him and said "you've really let your standards drop since last years suspension" he can expect a yellow for dissent at the very least, but to think that people are ok with match officials being above reproach for doing the same is worrying to me.

The whole episode covers a lot of areas the FA need to get to grips with, but again, as stated earlier.... Until they do, this situation will happen again in the future as long as refs are allowed to say what they want without fear of any action.

People can call it petty if they want and are free to, but shouldn't be that surprised that saints are not just settling for the status quo like other teams would.

That's what I don't get, the way it is worded makes no sense for Saints to complain.

Funnily enough, and no doubt I'll be reported to some governing body for this, but I think Lallana has got more 'mouthy' recently. Of course it could be him just taking his captaining duties seriously, but he definitely talks to refs more than he used to.

If this were happening to another club we'd all be laughing at them I'm sure.

Clattenburg was the referee for both of the Norwich matches last year...he drew a lot of stick in the 1-1 match as well, which was his return after the racism investigation. There was a handball in the lead-up to our goal, and he awarded a terrible free kick from which Norwich scored.

Either there's more to this, or Saints just really don't want him refereeing our matches anymore.

Frankly if Everton can have him not referee their matches for six years, we should be able to do the same thing :p

I think it's a deliberate decision by our management team (when do they do anything without a reason?)

This is a way of applying pressure on referees. I said in another thread, get the referee subconsciously aware that we're not going to roll over and ignore things we don't like. Once it's in the back of his mind that we're on the case, then we're going to get the rub of the green on the odd decision. Not all, but some. Look at the decisions Man U used to get going their way, from the 80% home decision statistic through to Fergie time.

If a club's level of detail includes vacuuming rooms before stays in hotels it'll certainly cover the odd decision that this minor storm will get going our way.

It may not be a likeable policy but it's understandable. If others do it, you have to as well if you want to win.

At the very least that picture (from before his England caps) is proof that Lallana has not really changed :p

Is that a photo from the relevant game, because, if so, Adam is wearing the captain's armband.
