Clattenburg under investigation after Southampton accuse him of abusing Adam Lallana

Or not... Ben Smith says Saints will not drop complaint and are still unhappy with the outcome.

 

Oh for goodness sake this is just pathetic now.

 

Adam Blackmore says Saints to contest this and pursue it further.

They don't believe the version of events/comments given by the PGMOL to be true.

 

Is it too conspiracy theory esque to suggest this will give us a bad name amongst other refs?

Not really. Refs should never make any sort of personal remarks about players. It's just completely unprofessional. They should judge the game, not the players. In the future everyone will rightly suspect that the ref is biased.

Lallana wasn't just protesting that call like a captain. He threw up his hands and then started screaming at the ref. Lallana and every other player should not just be carded, but also heavily fined/suspended every time that happens. And Clattenberg should be fined/suspended for any remarks not having to do with running the game. And FIFA/FA should issue a clarification on whether that is a handball and why so that officials, players, and fans all better understand the rule. Because right now, no one does so it's no surprise there are disagreements.

But since the head honchos never do anything, things like this will continue to happen.

 

It's unprofessional, and makes Clattenberg seem like a dickhead, but do you not think fining or suspending him for it seems disproportionate? Let's be fair, Lallana was mouthing off at Clattenberg for most of the game. It makes perfect sense if, at the end of the game (or possibly even after Lallana was done moaning at him for the handball incident) Clattenberg has lost patience with him so makes a remark alluding to Lallana's own lack of professionalism. It's not how you'd hope an official would act, but it's certainly not poor enough conduct to warrant punishment, unless we've not yet heard the full story.

 

I have no problem with us complaining about his performances, because he is an awful referee, but I really think it is making a mountain out of a molehill with regards to the 'alleged personal insult' to Adam.

 

Nah, if it is just that, it's a nothing. If anything it's quite a smart rebuke and desperately precious to complain about.

 

I can understand how it happened, but it shouldn't. However, it's not a major offence.

I'd suggest that Clattenburg sticks to the official route. If a player gives excessive lip, just book him and avoid snide remarks.

 

I think this is a rumbling discontent about how we are treated by refs in general...Clattenburg just hit our tipping point.

 

I hear Clattenberg has asked Ramires and Mikel to be character witnesses.

The PGMOL have thrown the complaint out, no surprise there, they will always look after their own. Arsenal - Spuds could be interesting.

Yep if it is just that it's kinda weird why we complained. Seems even more weird that we are carrying our complaint on.

We have never complain before, so to me I think there is more in it.

They also mention that Clattenburg said he had seen the handball (but thought it not deliberate). Mauricio had already made a comment about us not being treated fairly, then he gets informed (or hears directly) about the handball, and Adam says what the ref had said to him (sounds like it was along the lines of getting above himself since called up) and I can see this escalating to fury. We shall have to wait and see what affect this has on future decisions by ref...at least we won't be seen as pussy cats any more.

 

I'd imagine the general comment is correct, but the phrasing was probably quite different...
