    From the Daily Mail

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...United-signing-French-midfielder-Cabella.html

Newcastle United are in talks with Montpellier over France midfielder Remy Cabella.

The 23-year-old has been linked with Manchester United for most of the season but Newcastle have contacted his club and are keen to conclude a deal this month for the versatile player.

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin declared they would sell for £14million in November but privately they are open to negotiations as they look to bring in much-needed revenue.

Cabella has scored six goals in 18 games this season and can play on the wing or as a playmaker.Newcastle want a defender and a striker also, with Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis still on their radar.

Not sure it's what we need, but doesn't mean i wouldn't take him. Tipped for the future for a while now

Isn't he a winger, would say it spells the end for Ben Arfa.

If Marveaux and Obertan were to depart then Cabella would be a fantastic signing. Then in the summer we can replace Jonas with Fergie, our midfield options would be highly exciting and we'd cope much better with domestic competition and winter fixture congestion.

I'd like another winger/playmaker but I think a striker cover at right back are more pressing concerns. Maybe a centre half too if Colo is leaving at the end of the season.

Load of bollocks - Heitinga is pretty woeful with zero sell on value - it will never happen.

Then again with lines from Pardew like ''Shola has been terrific for us. I see no problems" - you can never say never with our club.

Please tell me you are joking, what a ridiculous for someone to say. This is an example of exactly why fans aren't convinced by Pardew.

We tried that before mate and it didn't work. I'm more than happy for seperate threads to pop up as the rumours do. No worries at all.

Very classy player. Would compliment the squad very well. He plays further forward than Cabaye so don't see him as a replacement myself.

Yeah checked their website, pretty odd comment, it was clear against Arsenal that we needed an out an out striker to have a chance of getting a draw/win.

Cabella looks to be a good potential signing seeing as he could cover either wing or centre midfield. In the bits I've seen looks a grafter too which would make him a good fit for us at present.

I would take him. Reckon we could do with a bit more creativity. And no, not ball hogging benny creativty. If he passed the ball we might be alright in that department. Mind, unless we get a striker there would be little point as wont have anyone to put it in the back of the net.

Would be ideal for us, but cant see it happening.
    From GFN France this morning.
Joe has to stop writing for the Mail and Telegraph and making up stories.

Mlactu understand that there is no contact between Remi Cabella or Montpellier and Newcastle for a possible move for the player. A claim that Get French Football News can confirm after receiving multiple versions of the story.

The Telegraph and the Daily Mail claimed that Newcastle had contacted Montpellier for the attacking midfielder Remi Cabella but at this stage there have been no discussions at all.

The British press is insistent that the player is interesting Newcastle and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

Montpellier will not sell for any less than €16m but need Cabella to ensure their Ligue 1 status in this second half of this season. Any attempt to sign the player this month will be made extremely difficult by President Nicollin who has a reputation of slowing talks down in an attempt to keep the player in question longer.

Another reported Newcastle target, Bafétimbi Gomis, has been in contact with multiple clubs in the last days and Get French Football News understands that a move this month is becoming more and more likely. Unfortunately, at this early stage, no further clarification is available.

Gomis missed training today with Lyon because of ‘a bad back’.

A striker has to be the top of the list in our transfer targets this month - we have to get one. We cannot possibly continue playing Shola. Its simply insane that the useless bastard has been here for so long and even more insane that he has been playing regularly. If Shola is the answer I dread to think what the ****ing question was.

It really depends who you're asking the question to. Shola doesn't have to play. He wouldn't ever get in my 18 man squad.
