Clattenburg under investigation after Southampton accuse him of abusing Adam Lallana

For the record I haven't said it is fine, just that I'd like them to do it once.

Depends what was said. If it's just swearing back then I agree, if it is a disgusting personal attack I don't.

Yes, of course would be unspoken. But a person training to be a professional ref and applying for a job as one would be more than aware of the abuse he will likely be getting - not to mentioned from the fans - and arguably wouldn't bother training and applying for that if the salary wasn't commensurate. Again, assuming this person is a realist and not been living under a rock his whole life.

I say 'his', but of course could be 'her' - interesting sidepoint: are there less female referees because les women feel that level of abuse is compenated by a mere £70,000? Or alternatively, would male players dole out the same levels of abuse to a women? (As we know from Sian Massey, fans will obviously maintain the same levels of abuse!)

 

I don't really care what was said. Unless this is all part of our plot to get decisions (!), then just get on with it. Lallana shouldn't have put himself in that position in the first place.

If you believe Lallana it was a personal insult, no player should have to take that from a ref.

 

Putting himself in a position where the referee feels it necessary to tell him to shut up, or book him, agreed. But personal insults, no.

Im dying to know what this personal insult was now. Itd have to be pretty bad to justify a formal complaint. Someone's gonna come out of this looking bad, hope its not saints or adam.

 

Just glad that Adam is white or the media would be all over it. Lallana is part Spanish...perhaps he insulted Spain...that would go down well at Saints.

Seems very petty to appeal that.

 

Bit of a patronising comment, but not sure it warranted a complaint.

True but as I said earlier the club can make the comment in private if it wants, it wasn't them that leaked it to the DM and wrote everyone a headline. Mountain out of molehill of course. Anyway happily that is the end of that.
