Possibly explains just why Mauricio was so furious about the referee post-Everton.

I remember talking to someone who knew Clatternburg when he was younger and apparently he was a complete ****.

A small part of me thinks "fair enough." I give refs stick as much as anyone else, but I've always thought if I was a top flight ref and a player swore at me or was moaning, them is just give them a volley back. I've no real complaints if the ref gave Adam a mouthful. About time they gave some back to players. It would be even nicer if they did it to some of the big guys.

Depends what was said tho? Adam could have just moan and shouted at him for the decision without swearing. Only for Clattenburg to go mad and swear etc.

Clattenburg comes off as a bit up himself tbh and has been in trouble before.

Good. I have no perspective on Clattenburg regards this alleged incident, but I do know that he has certainly made a fair few dubious decisions against us (Everton x 2, Norwich away last year) so him being stopped from officiating our games can only be a good thing.

I agree Beefy, but in general, I'd like a referee to give some verbal back. Not allowed though.

I don't mind refs having a go back but it depends what is said. Clattenburg's name comes up far too much with this sort of stuff. I don't see any other ref getting reported over and over again.

Explains a lot about Poch and his outburst, that was so out of character that there had to be more in it. No doubt Clottenburke will come out of it smelling of roses, but it is about time someone took a stand, if only to protect the decent Referees whose reputation is being besmirched.

Breaking my new years resolution here, but they are miked up and since racism-gate the sound is recorded, so should be open and shut. Does anyone really care...not really...chances are they will tell us to bog off. Or maybe the DM are making a meal of it, I see Graham Poll has a suspiciously long article about it already.

I'm sure I read that they are now because of the Chelsea thing. Might be wrong though.

Edit: says it here (DM again sorry) plus a load more conjecture from Mr Poll, whether that makes it true I don't know

Is this true of just speculation. I hope it doesn't open up another can of worms like the Mikel debate.

I thought only the assistants could hear what was said. But they didn't record what has been said during the match.

I take your point, but referees have the red card available to them to punish abusive language directed at them (and they should probably use it more often). Players have no recourse however, and referees shouldn't abuse their position of authority.

Hmmm, not one to defend referees, as Tom especially will recognise, but if he has just sworn or given Adam a bit of verbal, it may be surprising but it isn't that big a deal surely? Racial/discriminatory abuse is different. If he has just said "F off" or, "you're a rubbish player", then we are making a mountain out of a molehill.

Of course, he may have said something pretty bad. Clattenburg is a dreadful ref anyway.

It's more me wanting to see it happen just to put some people in their place a bit. It won't happen though and shouldn't, as you said.

Meh, when someone calls me a ****, I'll show them a red card and tell the player to **** off, albeit quietly.

Would have preferred for Cortese to hire some Bulgarians to kneecap him.
