I think Coutinho will just get better and better, he is like the young Ronaldo when he first joined utd, for all the reasons Redlad pointed out. The comparison has nothing to do with similar ability at similar age! It's a direct comparison of two players on joining a new club.

Bluff - I agree Oscar is probably a better player atm.

Just has that end product doesn't he? You put Oscar in the positions Coutinho was in yesterday and he scores, just think it is one area I would really hone in with if I was Rodgers, and to keep encouraging the through balls and the assists ratio too.

So the similarity between the 2 players is that they both joined a new club? Genius.

On what other level do the 2 players have even a passing resemblance?

they both looked like good skillful players (at a young age) but lacked the end product to go with the skills and that coutinho will start to prove his worth in a season or two by creating and scoring goals like ronaldo did when he started scoring goals

how can you not understand what he is trying to say

    you ******

I am guessing he meant young, good with running with the ball at pace, but lacking end product. Replace Ronaldo with whoever you want but he struggled with that in the beginning ( end product).

    Oh and at one time....

Coutinho's move to Internazionale became effective on July 2010, after he turned 18, with new head coach Rafael Benítez and chairman Massimo Moratti being quoted saying that "Coutinho is the future of Inter".

He has been compared to Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho by former Espanyol manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Ya that Pochettino guy is ****ing looney. Is he as good as those players? No. But does have he a style that can resemble them. Ya probably.

He does have the end product. We have seen glimpses of it with Coutinho but his speed and ability to read a game and be one step ahead is a sight to behold. Even Suarez doesn't always have the end product!

OF course it is not always going to be great but it is what is keeping him out of the Brazil side. Bernard, Oscar, and Lucas Moura add a bit more goals and assists at the moment. Coutinho has the vision and think he has a decent assist haul but managers love the no.10's to be able to create and score. Look at Real getting rid of Ozil for Bale, thought ( and may be true) that Bale would give them more numbers in the attacking third with the goals.

    What??

It was a comparison of how two players performed on joining a new club - it's really not very hard to understand.

All true. Coutinho has a good goal to games ratio for Brazil youth teams and if he keeps on improving and we finish high enough who knows what the future holds for him.

Just looked back and he played with Oscar, Willian, Moura, etc all of them came through about the same time. Good crop that.

    He's 21, not 18.

As I've already said by that age Ronaldo was scoring for fun.

In any case, one is a tricky winger / wide striker with bags of pace, & the other is more of a central playmaker, who's done precisely nothing to warrant being put in a similar bracket to the phenomenal Ronaldo.

I love the fact that you can see the future btw, lol.

Ronaldo had to go to Madrid before being classed 2nd best player in the world behind Messi, so his man yoo career and stats are null and void.<grr>

    Interesting set of posts <laugh>

I can see the similarities in the sense than Ronaldo and Coutinho when they first moved looked good but were not quite the finished article.

Do I think they were on the same level at that point in their careers, or will be at their future best?

No. Coutinho is good and will hopefully turn out to be a very good Premier League player.

Ronaldo is however top 5 best players to ever play the game.

ronaldo at 21...that'd be 2006 right.. he's 28 now.. 06/07 ronaldo got 20+ goals for utd. 17 in the league.

coutinho is 21. has only played 15 games in the league and only 2 goals.

In short.... they play different positions really. and really did back then.

Coutinho as a "fair" appraisal is a technically gifted player who needs to start applying some experience to his game. V cardiff he simply never looked up when shooting and fired a guilt edged chance wide.. a bit of composure, a look up and using the time his ability buys him and he'll move up in class no question.

    ...

finally for me ronaldo would not be in my top 5 either.... top 10? maybe.... my top 5 would have to include messi, pele, maradonna, di stefano and rivalinho. maybe.... zidane, puskas, cruyff, beckenbauer, eusebio, charlton, DALGISH, zcio, carlos alberto, ronaldo from brazil... eusebio

    there's strong competition.

I would rate ronaldo much higher than some from these shores who would put a waste of talent like best above him. to be great you deliver. thats why i personally put distefano up there. In fairness i'd put ronaldo above the likes of figo cafu and many many others.

note also in my fairness i don't put gerrard on that list.

These lists always seem to involve mostly Strikers or attacking midfielders.

    What about keepers..........Yashin,Banks,Zoff,Schmeichel.

    The list goes on.
