Would I take mata if he were offered - obviously YES. Would I go out of my way to get him and spend a lot of time, money and energy to do so - seriously NO.

It really is a case of wants and needs. Yes we may want him but do we actually don't need him - and that will be the big problem for Mata himself. To get the best out of Juan Mata he needs to feel that he is NEEDED by the club, the manager, the players and the supporters. Last season Mata was Mr Chelsea and it showed in his play. If Liverpool were to have a Mr Liverpool them if he came here, he would be No 3 in the pecking order. It simply would not work for either him or us.

  2. I understand what you're saying; we have more pressing areas on the pitch to address first. However, would you seriously not chase a front four of Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho and Mata...? We'd not be short of goals, we could just play the Kevein Keegan way; we'll score more than you <laugh>

and we have yet to see the full potential of Suso on loan and Alberto in the team (hughes as well?), happy days if we got Mata.

we would have some tricky little players then.

No I seriously would not chase Mata. If he sent a 'come and get me' that may be different. We already have 1 world class midfielder, two highly rated and developing midfielders and 1 great prospects learning his trade away in Spain. That's not even thinking about what may be on its way from the Academy.

  5. Who's the world class midfielder?

  7. I assume you mean Gerrard then. He may have been world class in his day, but he certainly isn't now. Still a quality player but there is no way he is one of the best in the world anymore. I suppose it depends on you definition of world class though <ok>

PS...some on here claim Coutinho to be world class. Clearly he isn't since he can't even get into the Brazilian squad, never mind a world squad.

    Ford's played for Brazil.

Not saying he's world class, just letting you know he's played for them and is very likely to be part of their WC squad <ok>

may i please ask why would mata not be no 1 pick... would you not take suarez and mata and sturridge and coutinho and think of a plan to get them working? I mean I would! coutinho would be wide left for me, he's not as good this season yet for me. clinical part is missing.

    How about:

    Reina (i wish)
    Johnson Toure (iwish) sahko enrique
    Henderson (deep) Gerrard Mata
    Sturridge Suarez Coutinho

have mingolet, agger, lucas, sterling on the bench... can't be too bad can it? then gerrard drops out for lucas v the big 4 and gerrard is the impact sub.

  10. I know he's played for them but he has a fight on getting into the squad.

True, it's far from a dead cert. But hearsay from Brazil suggests he's on course for a WC call up...

I thought that I had made clear in my post that I was concerned about Mata's psychology and it would appear that both his club and country manager also share my doubts.

erm.. Is what you are saying not the same that was said about ozil and how arsenal benefited? would we not make mata mr LFC... well mr lfc midfield behind suarez? I would. if thats whats needed then yes i would. Thats only if the game is to pass it not be athletic and pacey like city or bayern.

  16. Well, therein is the issue; Mourinho has isolated Mata supposedly because he doesn't track back or work hard enough.

Neither does Neymar, Robben and Ibra, but we would have anyone of them in a heartbeat.

This whole work rate thing is ridiculous, he's in the pitch to create and score, he's done that each season at Chelsea and was the shining light in the old, faded team. Hazard hardly tracks back and defends for long periods for him and hasn't done that much upfront to suggest he's been picked based on form.

    Schurle-Mata-Hazard

Is a much better selection than what there currently doing.

    .

He doesn't MIG bash to be fair, he's just in love with the shiny headed one. It's unrequited, but he can't help his feelings!

I'm with Dave here, if somehow he declared he wanted to come our way and the price was right you wouldn't say no, but he's not our biggest need at the moment. We''re still not in the picking up luxuries bracket yet.
