Since when does a Moderator have the right to say a thread is getting boring and to close it. A thread should stay open as long as people want to post there and a Mod should not unilaterally close it. Threads finish when everyone has said all they want to say. I hope this is not New Year's Resoliution on the part of Dan
I agree Harry with you. I also see that some of the match threads live too long as we have silly arguements growing at the end when only two people are left, that is time to kill a thread.
Even then I would not kill a thread - what harm does it do to others if a couple of people want to continue a little argument - we have the choice to ignore any thread - or anybody that we do not want to read. I am against all forms of unnecessary censorship. This takes me back to the days of 606 when Mods decided what you could or could not say. Let threads die on their own.
100% agree Harry, moderators are there to stop things getting out of hand not to stop full stop. Smacks of union rep type behavior to me.
Not sure what this is about but in principle..agreed.... ... on the other hand there some visitors to this board who take advantage etc.....
The reason I closed the thread was because Yellowtoyou was deliberately baiting the Qpr fan who was posting along with theghost. So rather than let it develop into a slagging match, I nipped it in the bud. The game was finished and the intelligent debate seemed to be done with so I though there was no need for the thread, especially seeing as we were due to play today. If people want to antagonise, wind up, abuse or anything like that you are free to visit that teams board. Otherwise feel free to debate politely in a civilised manner.
Unless someone actually complains about comments being made, I see little reason to shut a thread down. I am easily bored by people making statements that have little in the way of fact to back them up, so I just don't bother with the thread. Difficult job being a mod. Please some of the people some of the time, etc. You know the rest.
I never even looked at that thread for days even though it involved QPR. That thread should of been gone days ago and you should of been having a nice chat about a postponed game instead. We get threads closed by mods nearly every day on the QPR board, for going off topic, avoiding arguments, or getting onto politics. You can always start another Watford QPR thread if you wish
Shows a lot of whats wrong on here these days. Outsiders with little or no interest in the club and contribute little or nothing(not helped by their insistence of 'should OF' when my Dog knows it should be 'HAVE ') are allowed to virtually take over Although would doubtless attract more of the (better not name 'em!), things might improve if more females participated more likely to be able to cope with the existence of OTHER clubs....see also 'Upper/Lower 'subject.Maybe they wouldnt wanna tho! Fine words in your final para Mr Mod,goes a bit out the window though when you rant on about your Large Phobia ( people not allowed to be human in your humble opinion - wear black, carry a whistle.)Just cos you know more match day Burger vans salesmens first names than i do.
I don't think you have a remit to close threads because someone is baiting someone else. Who are you to judge others? If a thread is becoming really nasty and others complain about it then as a Mod you might - I repeat MIGHT - want to step in. Please do not carry out your own wishes but respond to requests from others. How dare you tell us to visit other teams' boards. This is not YOUR board BHD so please refrain from acting as if it is.
Blimey I didn't realise this was because I got bored of a QPR fans rant and yawned - I wasn't intending to bait anyone and i do think the moderator has totally over reacted - perhaps too many New Year's shandy's has frizzled his judgement brain cells - here's to 2014 and rapport & laughs with football fans
I'm with you HH, if a thread becomes offensive then objectors can complain to The Moderators and they can make the decision based on what was posted and the complaint. Otherwise they should be left to live or die on their own merits - if they are boring or rubbish, don't contribute and they will slide down the list.
In this case, coming off my spikey fence, no reason to act really... and as W_Y and others say best to let a boring thread fade..... I think mods should consult before they act.... and in our case where we have more than one mod. perhaps they also need to talk to each other. I have bad memories of 606 where there was unilateral modding which is not needed here...
As a mod on another board, I will say this in Dan's defence, when we were appointed moderator status we were given licence to run our own boards as we see fit, with the caveats that nothing illegal, racist, homophobic etc was to be allowed, the other matter to be considered is guests viewing the forum, our owner, MalteseMick is keen to have as many registered members as he can. If they look in and see a lot of squabbling, it's likely to put them off joining! Finally, from bitter experience, whatever you do as a mod (or don't do) somebody won't like it. You Watford fans have an exceptionally well behaved group and your two moderators are genuinely lovely people!
should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE should HAVE - should HAVE Please!
Sorry Canary - Dave, but these threads are not "yours" to run as you see fit - they should be for the contributors to decide how the content is managed. Of course anything you listed above should be deleted and sanctions taken against posters who continue to brake those rules, but I do not find it acceptable that threads are deleted on the whim of a Moderator because they believe they "run their own boards." Unless other contributors complain then treads should me left to prosper or wither based on the contributions of those who wish to contribute. As has been stated by many others, on the Watford threads we have been pretty much self moderated by the way we interact, yes we get WUM's and trolls, but that is there way of the internet. I appreciate the being a Mod is a thankless task and generally Dan & H have been spot on, but we will raise our concerns when we believe a mistake has been made.
I can see how you've misunderstood what I meant, when I said each board is run as they see fit, I meant the depth of moderation is decided by each board independently of any other board, some boards run an anything goes board and others are very strict, it's all down to what the members of each board desire! I wouldn't dream of assuming I have any input on this board, I'm very grateful that you give me sanctuary on here without too much grumbling from the natives!
