Todays ref was **** for both teams. Bruce could easily have been sent off, but there were some very strange decisions for each team.
I agree with that. There was one in a Liverpool match a few years ago which had everyone up in arms. I can't remember the players or the other team involved but the Liverpool player was running fast toward and close to the goal about the edge of the 6 yard box, the next touch would have been a clear shot on goal unless he tried to round the keeper. The defender came absolutely flying in 2 footed behind the ball but in front of the man, making the forward jump over the challenge would have meant the ball would have got away from him, taking the contact would probaby have resulted a very nasty outcome, so the Liverpool player jumped over te defender and hit the deck winning a penalty and I think a sending off for the defender. Had he stayed on his feet I'm certain it would have just been play on, but it was a hard, reckless, clumsy challenge which, contact or no contact, unfairly denied a clear goal scoring opportunity and should have been a penalty and a red card regardless of whether the forward went down or not.
If I remember right, If the ref saw it and dealt with it, the FA won't take any action. If the ref didn't see the incident properly, they will take retrospective action.* That was a blatant red card for violent conduct (or assault if you're in town on a night out) so can only assume the ref didn't see it properly. *If I remember rightly.
The ref saw it and booked him, so I don't think the FA can do anything. Or has this changed this year? Only god knows what the rules are now!
I now actually hope he didn't see it, because that is a deserved ban. That rule is so ****ing stupid anyway. Are they saying that if, for example, the keeper two footed a player on the 18yd line with no defenders nearby, and got a yellow card, the ref was correct, despite contradicting the actual rules?

I concur....retrospective action. I would go for 10 game bans, or is that excessive? I believe large bans are the only way to get blatant cheating out of the game.

Players will just bounce up as soon as they hear a whistle but before the medical staff run onto the pitch. Or worse, medical staff could be instructed to "wait and see" to prevent players receiving a "time penalty", resulting in a delay in treatment of genuine injuries.
