Just back from the Watford game, the Forest Game on Sky the Leicester game last week and nearly every other home game this season from my season ticket in the R Block
The teams are read out and most way fans must think "blimey that's a strong QPR team much stronger than ours on paper - could be a long afternoon!!"
Then the game starts and they see 8 of us hit 5 yard sideways passes in our own half "The Barcelona way"
The players need to realise they are better man for man. They then need to take responsibility.
The defence need to push the midfield up the pitch. Rarely will the defence be beaten for pace in this leagues despite their fear of such. They are happy playing it at the back and making space for themselves. They don’t need to be making 5 yard passes and getting it straight back when they should be making 15 yard passes and getting less back. Danny Simpson- when you overlap OVERLAP BOY – TAKE THE RISK AND RIGHT DOWN THE LINE = there is no point being 5 yards over the half way line near Matty - stretch the field of play and give Matty room to either pass to you or turn and run. Also your crossing will be easier if right down the line. TRUST YOUR TEAM TO COVER FOR YOU WHEN YOU DO.
The midfield need to take much much more responsibility. I remember Roy Keane saying he used to scream at players who played the safe sideways or backwards ball all the time. It’s not the Man Utd way nor is it the QPR way for an under 21/small time/ex international playing in a competent championship team
The wingers need to try nudging the ball ahead early and splitting defences. They mainly need to MIX IT UP. They are both good enough to beat a championship defender a decent percent of the time. They just need to take more risks. They should both look at BAE and see how he traps and kills a ball with his first touch, then looks up and makes a decision on the next action in a split second. If they do that and use their better pace they will both be a real handful. Junior your last touch before crossing or shooting should be to nudge it AWAY from a defender and make some space for yourself.
You both give the ball away too much now by predictably running into blind alleys so why not take some risks
Joey – head up – an extra 15% as per the start of the season – you should be bossing a 4 man midfield not cruising in 5 man midfield. Also you were brilliant on the right wing in August so why not move there from time to time to mix things up. Do a Roy Keane when Carroll or O’Neill play the wimps responsibility free pass all them time
The midfield need to become and harder working 4 man (only) midfield each winning their own battle , each wanting to run and shoot or play the killer pass.
Niko – you are a match winner and you have great body strength and skill. The one thing you can’t do is run. Last season I watched Adel pick the ball up from the half way line beat two players then shoot from 40 yards as he was knackered and we don’t need to see you doing the same. You have the skills to be 30 yards further up the pitch and collect the ball “in the hole” on the edge of the area. Especially in this league.
Everyone – don’t side foot your shots – get your laces through it. You don’t hit the target enough side footing it so you might as well do the same with the laces. Even in the warm up I see 2 / 3rds of the team side footing their shots
In summary – take more risks, lose the ball more often maybe but create more chances and probably score more goals. The defence can be trusted to keep most attacks out. Do the above and we can literally play anyone as the 11th player/striker . This league is not very good so take more risks as man for man you are better than them

I really don't get this 'best squad in the league' business. We have one or two decent players but the rest are average. I often look at opposition teams and think 'They move the ball quicker, have more control, more energy, more flair, more attacking and they have two strikers up top!'.

Hard to disagree with any of this excellent advice. I can't remember the last time I saw one of our midfielders running at the opposition through the middle. However, it's still glaringly obvious that if we had stuck away the many chances we have created even with our conservative tactics we would be top by a mile. The midfield can be adjusted on the training ground assuming HR wakes up to the problem but our goal shyness needs a dip into the transfer market.

While the centre midfield lacks any sort of attacking prowess, we do lack in the forward dept as we are nothing without Austin who could create a goal from nothing. Thats not going to happen with 3 goal a season AJ and zimmer frame Zamora.

Both are problems, we have the CM never get into the box, the wingers always cut in and never cross. Both are very easy to see for everyone except the manager. The lack of pace also allows the opposition to have their back line high and that means we just pass it around in the middle third as no one wants to take chances with the ball like a certain Taarabt would, they all want to take the safe pass and let someone else have the responsibility.

We can afford to lose the ball in this league but we play like we are against a manchester club every week.

Not in my book, not today's football and I don't agree with the OP ... Its looks all so simple and this is born from not getting results simple as ... our football is very goodIMO

This has been a difficult few games yet we have been in all of them. Its a simple case of getting the platform right and Harold and Stephen have got that IMO

When the chances come and there have ben many we must finish at a much higher standard and is all that is wrong with QPR at the moment IMO

My only frustration is the finishing and decision making in front of goal ... Phillips miss against the Foxes still has me livid as does the many misses of Austin.

I would work harder at finishing moves on the training ground and the patience and control of our game is really where we need to be.

I would pick tippy tappy any day on the task in hand we have over any gun ho approach... the other team cannot score without the ball and so while everyone is moaning about the boredom I suggest they catch up on what is now the modern game.

Yes we lost at Forest ...and the performance was not good enough but we were in the game right until that last goal.

Take stock what do you want? ... a recent team that couldn't put 5 passes together and was always chasing a game or a team that controls the ball

Get the finishing sorted maybe just a few chances a game but take them

I would be very worried if i was a Leicester fan ... entertaining maybe but there a few heavy defeats around the corner for how that team is set up IMO. I believe we stay solid and take comfort in that when the gears all get cracked up as we head into the second half of the season.

Derby have done exactly thing by growing together and becoming a solid bond. Maybe Jan 10th you may see the Foxes get taught a big lesson, Burnley are hanging on IMO but doing very well the pressure means we need a team like we have and I understand now

We just need to pick up the tempo and movement in the last third a bit.

Well... won't the transfer window be interesting! Looks like there will be some who are disappointed for sure.
I do agree that our midfield needs to step up, but also agree that we need to be much more ruthless in front if goal. With both these factors we could steamroller some teams and pull away from the pack.
One thing the OP points to is our solid defensive line, even if they did make the odd mistake, us having more than one goal would be enough for us to win our games with conviction.

Austin showed just why we need to get crosses into the danger area, there just aren't enough of them and good ones are so difficult to defend against. Today saw more frustrating poor midfield play, I don't know what DT is watching but if he's happy with that he's bloody easily pleased...

We started off pumping a lot of balls into the box from out wide but that stopped really when Hoilett went off.

Good to see the winner coming from the cross, maybe we will do that more often rather than just passing back to the FB who then goes to the cb etc

Austin is doing fantastic with the service he is given.
