A pretty good match despite the conditions and a deserved 3 points . Three good chances in the first half with little threat from the Gulls, whose keeper should have seen red for cynically hacking down Lavery outside the box. not a goalscoring chance but a deliberate and dangerous challenge- the ref decided it was a yellow. The only danger was that we might not find the back of the net but a 'johnny on the spot' finish by Lavery and a good team goal finished by Alessandra following a Connor excellent cross put the result beyond question.
Difficult to pick out a MOTM, we were pretty good from front to back but Luke Mc, Purrington, Hourihane Alessandra and Lavery all impressed. Torquay huffed and puffed but never really looked any better than their position suggests.

10 points from 12 is the best return I can remember for many a year so onwards and upwards.

Looking forward to Sunday despite the long journey.

It is not hard to see why Torquay are where they are in the league although it gives me no pleasure to say that at all. Argyle were well worth the result today and to be honest it should have been more and an easier watch. It's a toss up for MOM for me. Either Lavery who did well all afternoon or McCormack once more who did what was needed when it was needed. He keeps us in games regularly with any fuss. Alessandra deserves another mention in despatches.

If totally honest, when I woke up this morning I had a bad back and it was precipitating down outside with the wind nearly taking the roof off. Must have been the curry from the night before......boom boom. If they had callled the game off I might have not been miffed at all. But, it was on and I went despite everything. It was a fair match and worth the effort. One thing for me once more was the little man in black with the whistle. I say little man because he was only about 5 foot 6. He was absolutely rubbish. Marginally he could have sent their full back off early on for taking out Alessandra. It was cynical but only a yellow. He should have sent their keeper off as lyndhurst has alluded too above. Terrible tackle. Last man, outside the box and totally meant. He booked Lavery for over celebration for scoring. That's a yellow the same as theiir keeper and full back got with the same implications. It is unbelievable that these 3 incidents could be remotely the same. He got a fair few other things wrong as well.

But we are happy tonight. Top team in Devon once more and I make it only 5 points outside the playoff spots. Probably be brought down to earth with a bump now I've said that but it will be nice whilst it lasts. Terrific form over Christmas and if we are all honest we would have bitten hands off for 10 points before and settled for 6 as being ok.

From watching TV clips I would say that Lavery has got that magic gift of goal scoring....and he has only just started in league football.

Sheff W have been alerted to his natural ability unfortunately...so when they sort their management out...he will surely be going back before the end of January, seeing that his new one month loan includes a 24hr return clause. They have injuries and are short of strikers....Lavery admits he was surprised that they let him stay another month.

Against Port Vale in the Cup we will be struggling without Lavery (not available) being there to score goals....it will depend on our defence to keep a clean sheet.

I don't agree with the Lavery missing and the goals dry up thing plym. Others are scoring now and we are not dependant on one man although he may be making a decent contribution. Reid is scoring regularly and Alessandra looks like getting a few also. We may not be winning matches with 3 or 4 to spare but we are scoring as the records show.

I must admire your optimism sensible.....but Reid will be on his own again without a genuine striker supporting him....I would love to be proven wrong in the Cup but I won't be holding my breathe.

It isn't being optimistic plym. The record shows it isn't and that we are scoring goals if not by the bucket full. It's going to be a struggle anyway against Vale. They are doing well enough in league one and will be at home. Hence why it's a crappy draw for us. No money in it and every chance of losing. However, no feint heart as that never won anything.
