The most disappointing thing is we've played well against the likes of Everton and we've just shown nothing today. Yes we're 9th and that's great, but I'd liked to have seen us give Chelsea a game like we did last year.
We are losing against a chelsea side that could finish the season on top.so' not gonna get too downhearted about this
Its frustrating to see us trying to pass through a crowded centre of the pitch and giving the ball away. Its like we've forgotten how to attack.
I don't think that's fair at all. Chelsea are a damn good side and we matched them for 60 minutes. Arguably two of their goals were due to deflections. I don't think you can really blame our players for simply being beaten by a much better team.
Poor performance and the players look absolutely shattered, but then again you'll always be feeling more fatigue when you're losing 2 or 3 nil. One thing of note from this game, the difference between Chelsea last season and Chelsea this season under Mourinho is drastic, against us anyway.
We've played quite poorly but Chelsea have done well and created chances throughout the game. When we played at Stamford Bridge I seem to remember reading that Mourinho had never lost a game against Pochettino and I would suggest he knows how to counter our system. Still, we've come through a tough run of fixtures with plenty of injuries. Those players will soon be coming back and we've already been to Anfield, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge, Goodison Park and the Emirates so I'd expect performances to improve and results to turn our way pretty soon.
Tbf, it's a bit depressing because, only 2 months ago, Chelsea might have been very lucky to come away with a draw. My only fear this season is that the high tempo game would come to haunt us if injuries put too much strain on the squad. That fear has culminated in today's performance and result. As usual, weve pinned a very good side back, but we've inevitably tired in the conditions. Hope the squad don't become dispirited and lose confidence. They've done well in patches today and in the last few weeks, but the squad is thin. It can be corrected.
Not poor at all. Played well against a good side who were good in attack and defence. Chelsea got back well when we had the ball and were strong in attack as well. We turned out a performance that doesn't suggest we are fading badly. We will beat a lot of teams playing like that. I'm not surprised the team looked exhausted...Chelsea put us under constant pressure. Other results went our way, so still a gap below us. Must get points against WBA and Sunderland. I also think we should put out a decent side on Saturday as winning is a habit.
I can't quite agree with "not poor at all" Fran. I'm always one to stick by the team but today was quite poor.
Very depressing watching that second half, but I don't think too much can be read into it. Pochettino is a great tactician but it's very rare that someone can out-tactic Mourinho, and I think that's what we've seen today. For me Lovren was uncharacteristically poor and Lambert made little to no impact on the game when he came on, although at that point Chelsea were thoroughly dominant. Also encouraging signs from Ramirez, but nothing to get too excited about. I think Wanyama missing was key today as we had very little defensive stability from midfield, especially when Cork went off after a yellow card.
I thought we were competing well until "The Special One" changed things with his substitutions, shame MP didn't respond quickly and when he did they served no purpose other than to weaken our battling midfield and make it easier for the Chelsea midfield to take absolute control. The Special One 3- 0 MP - out thought and out fought ANd don't get me started about the decision to start with GR……..
The second half was poor but the first half was good. That happens sometimes. What gets me is Oscar's dive. It was one of the most disgusting things I've seen in a while. He chose to go down NOT to win a penalty but to get the GK sent off. He could easily have stayed up and scored. I genuinely think the yellow for a dive needs rethinking. If you deliberately try to get someone sent off - Red. And then the little **** plays a big part in all the goals!
Got to agree, for me this was our most disappointing performance of the season. I understand that Mourinho is a genius, and his substitutions changed the game, but we weren't in it at all second half. It was uncharacteristically poor from nearly everyone, I'm especially disappointed in Schneiderlin, but in his defence he was left alone in midfield for most of the second half. Cork was good but Wanyama would have solidified our midfield just that much more.
So we've played against Everton, Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea away, and against Chelsea, City and Tottenham at home. We picked two points from these fixtures. 2 point out of 7 game, relegation form, you say. Let's put things in the right perspective.
Which of our world-class Brazilians would you have had us bring on in response to their substitutions? Compare the two benches, seriously. How anyone can put that difference down to tactical deficiencies is beyond me.
That was a cruise for Chelsea. They were good, but didn't have to play at even close to their full capability today. Saints were poor, slow on the ball and slow off it. Can't recall us winning any second balls. Cech had a bloody easy day at the office. Wrong not to play Lambert. Today showed where each team deserves to be in this league. Chelsea top, Saints middle of the road.... BUT... we are not playing as effectively as we did, injuries aside. A few more "lazy" defeats and we could tumble down the table.
We got four points against a Chelsea squad that is largely the same as this one, and have been absolutely dominated twice this season, I don't know how anyone can't see this is down to management and tactics?
