... have a decent referee for our fist match of 2014 only it seemed you decided to send us a crap one for every game we played in 2013. PS Mauricio is right our boys are really well brought up and are very good looking but most importantly they don't harass your referees. They therefore deserve some respect and to be treated fairly through the course of a match.
We did not have a crap referee for every game. I'm getting very tired of referees getting stick every single week on here.
Initially this season, Mauricio was very philosophical about decisions not going our way...but I guess his patience is wearing thin. Even so he has made fairly gentle comments...no direct attacks which can get you a reprimand. People may laugh about his 'too handsome' comment, but it makes sense...the refs are not afraid of us (not that I want us to turn into snarling Rooneys, but it does cost us). I don't think refs are biased, but it is human nature to avoid conflict, especially if everything could kick off. I am unsure whether MP's comments will help or hinder.
You just don't understand football do you. Referees were established so that managers and fans would have someone to blame for a poor team performance. It stops fans from realising their teams weaknesses and Managers have always liked someone else to blame for their own inadequacies and mistakes. The referees also recognise their role in all of this that is why they make the same mistakes week after week. They have to otherwise they are not fulfilling their useful function. If they weren't crap we wouldn't need them and there probably wouldn't be a need for message boards like this one..
Dear referee, please can you make sure that little Johnny doesn't get knocked about by the rough boys during games. Last week he came home with a graze on his knee and a tear on his sleeve.
I agree, a good Refereeing performance is taken for granted, it is only when we get to the odd one or two that cost us matches, that we rear up and start pleading foul, but that isn't unatural if you love your team and see it being cheated by incompetence by so called Professionals, who give the decent Officials a bad name. One problem lies with them being seemingly untouchable. A player makes a mistake and gets yellow carded and eventually a punishment if done too often, but it doesn't matter how many poor decisions a Referee makes, nothing seems to happen, you do see cases where Referees are removed from games though, but the reason is not often explained. Football is a Team game and that should apply to everyone without exception, the "them and us" syndrome doesn't help.
Pretty much did. I think Jon Moss had a good game in one of our matches, and Mike Jones had two good games (Reading away and Newcastle away). Other than that, the referees are just terrible.
I'm getting very annoyed with your constant negativity towards the referees. Most of them are bloody good referees. Admittedly Howard Webb has missed a lot of penalties this season so I can understand criticism towards him but none of the PL referees are "terrible".
Really? Referees "terrible"? Get a sense of perspective. They do as good a job as they can. You get to watch every decision three to five times in slow motion (sometimes almost stop frame) from three to five different angles. Even then, people disagree with each other - look at the Everton "was it a penalty?" argument on here the other day. Calling referees "terrible" for their decisions is rather extreme. And, frankly, anyone who can't take a referee's decision shouldn't be playing the game. If I had my way, the football authorities would make it a condition of selling football rights to broadcasters that any contention decisions be shown only at full speed from one angle. That'd shut up the whining and encourage people just to move on like grown ups. Vin
We know you are a referee and usually defend them. Godders is having a giggle, albeit I tend to agree with him a little. One could get fed up with you always defending them
Actually, I don't. I watch them at the game and see what I think are too many really obvious decisions go the wrong way.
What annoys me is when one of our players hacks another and the whole crowd shout and complain?! If they're complaining about our player committing a silly foul, then fair enough, but if it's due to a decision which goes against us (even though it's a correct one), then it's a bit silly.
Fair enough. Equally, I've stood in my normal spot amongst the animals in the Northam and listened to them calling the ref for decisions at the other end of the ground or (even better) the linesman for giving offsides at the far end. I've heard the crowd erupt when one of our defenders has nearly sliced the ankles off an attacker and a foul's been given. And I don't really think that being surrounded by that keeps an observer neutral, so your "obvious" decision may not be. Vin
of course not, they are my opinion. There is someone on here who sits in front of me and listens to my "animal like" shouts to the referee of "That's embarrassing ref"
I decided in League 1, as yet another fat bloke lumbered up 2 mins behind the play, that I'd never moan about a premiership ref again.
