You're a typical tit who knows **** all about football but thinks he knows a lot. It wasn't an average Argentinian team. It was actually rather good. Couple that with Maradona, a handball and some fortunate fixtures, and it's why they won. Any phenomenal player can play a big role in how well a team plays, but one player doesn't make a team. You have a goalie, defenders, midfielders and other attackers, so unless that one player has the vast majority of the teams possession, then the rest of the team plays a big role as well. That's proven when Argentina won 3-2 with no goals from Maradona against a tough West Germany side. Totally agree with the OP. Maradona made other players around him look good, even though they were nowhere near his standard. This is the hallmark of a truly great player. He shared this quality with Gazza. Let's remember he also inspired Napoli to a scudetto win for the first time in ages.
You can't refute that George best was undoubtedly a footballing genius and had the ability to be mentioned alongside the greatest players of all time. However, the two reasons why I think he falls short of the likes of Pele, Maradona and Cruyff is that his life style meant that his best days were comparitively short lived, and also that he never had the chance to prove himself on the international world stage. having said that, he was still one hell of a footballer.
I think we all need to take amoment and ponder why Daryl Murphy hasn't made this thread yet. Every manager he's played for obviously rates him, and he had a special skill of making the rest of the team look good.
