    It's an absolute disgrace.

Not the worlds best tennis player Andy Murray, 26, snubbed for his countries greatest honour.

If winning a couple of tournaments and only being part way through your career isn't enough, then what is?

And don't get me started on not the best or most successful British player of his generation, David Beckham, missing out.

Wimbledon champion Andy Murray and former England captain David Beckham have been overlooked in the New Year's Honours list.
The duo, who both have OBEs, had been tipped to be knighted.
Murray, 26, became the first Briton in 77 years to win the Wimbledon men's singles title in the summer, while Beckham, 38, retired from football in May after a 20-year career.

Murray, yeah I agree, he has an OBE, fingers crossed next year he won't even be British if the jocks vote the right way.

Beckham though is more than just a retired footballer, he does a lot lot more stuff than that. I think he's too young atm to be knighted but one day he will be, and that's fine.

Beckham will be gutted, as will his wife. Murray won't give a sh1t and rightly so, all he cares about is winning tennis matches, being the best he can be and hopefully winning some more majors and securing the number one spot, I love the fact he doesn't give a crap about his media persona and doesn't spend loads of his time promoting his image like Mr Beckham did during his career.

Glad Murray missed out he doesn't deserve knighthood.

Beckham on the other hand does, and as he retired this year, now is the time to do it. It's a joke really. Who is getting knighted?

I dont get the Beckham thing, why is everyone desperate for him to be knighted this year? IF - and it's a big if - you think he deserves to be knighted then he's got about another 40 years when it can happen. Personally I dont see why he should be knighted. What has he ever done to suggest he deserves it that others havent done?

On another subject, I saw Beckham give supposed lessons to kids on how to volley on Sky Sports the other day. He took about 10 of them through a session on doing this and not one - NOT ONE - including his own was even a ****ing volley. Every single effort including his supposed textbook example was a half volley. When did people get confused about this? For this reason alone he deserves to miss out on a knighthood and one can only assume the Queen saw the same programme.

    What a ****.

Perhaps, once Dyson has invented that huge chainsaw we will use to cut the independent Jockenese adrift, the daft sods will come up with some Braveheart award to make him the Lard (sic) of Dunblane. Personally wouldn't give him the lickings of an English dog.

When you look around at who gets awarded what, I would have thought Beckham, a player I have always admired, would merit one for his wide ranging sports, charitable and ambassadorial work; it seems, to me, that it is the right point of his career.

Edit: okay, I'm duly convinced that he must sort this volleying issue before he is allowed to win his spurs. <ok>

Why should Beckham be knighted, what has he really done?

Its sickly how the media cream themselves over him.

If sportsmen get knighted for being great sportsman, Beckham surely qualifies. And then there's the ambassador and monolith of charity work and donations he makes. Who deserves a knighthood more?

Great sports men don't spend 6 years of there career playing in a pub league to build there brand.

Tons of sportsmen have done great work for charity, but ut never gets highlighted.

People who devote their entire lives to charity, not doing the occasional bit on the side to look good whilst pocketing several hundred million in the process. I know people who literally give their lives to charity and have zero income EVER as a result. I'd say they deserve it more than someone who signed the most lucrative contract possible when in his prime instead of chasing sporting glory. And if we're talking solely sports people getting knighted, then someone who is a success at winning things is probably a good idea. Why does Beckham deserve to be knighted ahead of any of his team mates at club or country? If we'd won something as a nation during Beckham's England captaincy years, then all of this wouldve been different.

    But we didnt.

I think you've just said in a much more succint way what I was trying to convey <ok>

Surely Steve Bruce should be knighted before David Beckham?

The reason they haven't given a knighthood to Beckham is obvious.

...and she knows who she is.

David Beckham being touted for a knighthood but Bobby Moore never having one is quite sad.

If any English sportsman was deserving of a knighthood, it was Bobby Moore.

Knighthoods are never meant to be a reward of hard work - they even offereed a knighthood to the bloke who delivered (or was the main doctor type at the birth of )this years Royal Sprog

Historically the knighthoods havnt been for much better i suppose

If England do the unthinkable and win thr world cup then you'd expect hodgson to be knighted next year and maybe captian gerrard <yikes>
