With regards to Cairney, I think the decision is, new contract or sell him to Blackburn. I expect to see him start again 'boro and either given another year and a half or be sold within Jan.

If we plan to sell him though we can't play him. As messed up as Blackburn are they must have someone who'll realise that if we play him then they're the only club that can buy him. At the moment we seem to be doing everything we can to attract a rival bidder, eg releasing the £350k fee we've rejected for him.

It would be absolutely stupid to play him at Boro. In doing that we immediately rule out a bidding war and Blackburn can reduce their offer significantly knowing they have us over a barrel. There is no way in the world we give him a new deal, it's move in Jan for a fee or July on a free.

I don't think it counts if he was only on loan at Charlton. Is he any good by the way? Not seen much of him recently......

He's good enough for a lower league side such as yourselves.

Ricardo is almost never wrong about such things.

No he isnt any good, at least the last time I saw him play. Been a while though obviously as he has been out on loan.

    He's gash.

I'd be shocked if we got more than ten bob for him.

Anyway, when did they become known as The WS? It's always been TWS.

It counts because he joined them in September on a half season loan deal. If he'd joined them in October on an emergency loan deal (like Fryatt did in joining Sheff Wed) then you'd be right and you'd be fine to sign him.

The only way you can sign him now is on a series of emergency loan deals, with a maximum total duration of 93 days. You can break up those 93 days however you want to maximise the number of league games he plays, the common practice (as common as you can get in these circumstances) is to have the player technically return to the parent club during international breaks or around cup ties but still train with you as then you can get almost 14 days for free. The only condition on the chunks is that they are at least 28 days long each time, and that the final chunk of the season is started on or before the 4th Thursday in March (as that's when the emergency loan window closes).

Ah didn't know he'd signed for the Addicks on a half season loan deal. Sounds like you know what you're on about!

Don't want him judging by what you lot are saying....

Serious answer: he just seem to lose interest in the game completely- mental problems. Lost his ability to round the full back and take players on. Astonishing decline compared to his earlier form when he was confident and tricky.

He seems to have rediscovered his mojo at the Valley somewhat.

But question mark about his temperament must remain.....

He was the best player in the league when Leicester made their offer, so if you could get him back to that level he would be brilliant for you. Unfortunately he is probably the most weak minded player I've ever seen so that would be a very difficult job. The raw talent is there but he depends completely on confidence to play and at the moment he has none.

Seemed very easily intimidated by one early crunching tackle from the full back (v Rotherham in Lg cup?)

Just didn't want the ball after that.

The 3 club rule only applies to this country doesn't it? i.e. a bidding war between Blackburn and Celtic could still happen?

I don't think so. Wasn't there something about Maschereno having to get special permission from FIFA to play for Liverpool after having played for West Ham and some South American team in the same season?

No. The first example I can find of it was when Cousin tried to join Fulham from Rangers in January one year, and the move was blocked because he'd played 2 games for Lens in the August before he joined Rangers.

As we're talking Cairney we don't currently count as a club for him this season, we've just got to make sure we don't play him if we want to start a bidding war or it could **** us and him over. Imagine playing him, Celtic win the bidding war so Blackburn sign someone else, then the club discovers we can't sell him to them. Does us out of the transfer fee and does him out of a move until the summer.
