In jan I'd be happy if Ji, Gardner and Johnson went out the door to help finance bringing in a quality winger and a quality AM

Sunderland have reportedly ruled out buying new players in the January transfer window.

The Black Cats have been linked with a loan move for Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso, who joined the Italian side from Bolton Wanderers during the summer.

However, BBC Sport reports that owner Ellis Short is not looking to invest in the team, so Gus Poyet would have to sell players to generate funds for new personnel.

Sunderland currently sit bottom in the table, but are unbeaten in their last three outings.

GIACCHERINI — The likelihood of Lucas (who will cost too much) and Biabiany joining the club appear to be diminishing, especially as other players are being watched by the Bianconeri. They include former Juve player Emanuele Giaccherini, currently at Sunderland. Nothing has been finalised and the possibility of the Bianconeri asking for the player on loan seems high

The word is out; Arsenal are seeking attacking reinforcements this winter.

After leaning greatly upon the talents of Olivier Giroud for the last five months, Arsene Wenger’s side have become closely associated with a plethora of attacking alternatives. However, it’s a man who’s anything but an obvious candidate, Steven Fletcher - could he be a savvy option for the Gunners in January? Should they consider him? The Mirror report that forward could be available for around £6 million. If they think six million is what we want they can forget it.if they want him we must hold out for at least ten mill.or keep him ????

GUS Poyet has confirmed that Fiorentina left-back Marcos Alonso has joined the club on loan for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has experience of playing in the Premier League previously, having been on Bolton’s books from 2010 until July this year.

And Poyet is pleased to have made an early breakthrough in the transfer market.

He said: “I can confirm Marcos will be with us for the rest of the season on loan, which is something very important for us.

“I was always looking for a player at left-back or on the left side so I’m delighted he’s here.

“It’s competition for Andrea Dossena who is the only recognised left-back we have here - they are different sort of players so it helps us with our options.”

Poyet has an idea of how many players he would like to bring in in January but says it is always difficult to say how the month will pan out.

“The problem with putting a number on players is that I would like maybe three or four but it’s always so unpredictable.

“The reality is, it’s almost pointless saying so at the outset because things can change so much.

“Initially though, three or four is the idea.”

There are likely to be as many players leaving the Stadium of Light in January as there are arriving but Poyet says no-one is lined up to leave so far.

“We haven’t had any offers for our players as things stand and any clubs who are interested will need to make an offer because we are not going to advertise them.

“Every single player here is under contract as things stand and you need to respect that.

“We won’t be throwing names out publicly, we will consider what interest we get.”

    Charles N’Zogbia

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet targets Charles N’Zogbia and others in January transfer window
After completing the loan signing of left back Marcos Alonso Sunderland manager Gus Poyet sets his sights on "three or four" more players

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet would like to bring in another “three or four” players in January after completing the loan signing of Fiorentina left back Marcos Alonso.
The Black Cats remain bottom of the table despite picking up four points from their two games over Christmas, a 1-0 win at Everton and a 2-2 draw at Cardiff City, and Poyet will hope the arrival of Alonso will be the first of several in the window.
The Uruguayan is interested in signing Aston Villa winger Charles N’Zogbia, although the player’s wage demands are a stumbling block, and would also like to bring in a striker.
“The problem with putting a number on players is that I would like maybe three or four but it’s always so unpredictable,” said Poyet.
“The reality is, it’s almost pointless saying so at the outset because things can change so much. Initially though, three or four is the idea.”

Alonso, who impressed Bolton Wanderers in the Championship last season, has already had a medical on Wearside and will complete his move when the window officially opens on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old began his career at Real Madrid, but moved to Bolton in 2010, leaving Lancashire on a Bosman style free transfer last summer to play in Italy, but his first team chances have been limited.
“I was always looking for a player at left back or on the left side so I’m delighted he’s here,” Poyet told the Sunderland Echo.
“It’s competition for Andrea Dossena who is the only recognised left back we have here – they are different sort of players so it helps us with our options.”
Poyet has made it clear to Sunderland’s Director of Football, Roberto De Fanti, he only wants players who have experience of playing in English football and expects others to arrive in the next few weeks.
Although money is tight, Poyet has been given a small budget to spend and will also look to sell fringe players to raise extra funds before the window shuts.
Even though Sunderland signed 14 players in the summer, Poyet has argued for weeks that most of the players brought in are not good enough for the Premier League. Although De Fanti remains in charge of recruitment, Poyet has warned he will quit if he has players forced on him.

    Wouldn't be enough

We need an AM, forget Bridcutt, we're not lacking in cm's

    I'd bring in

    Alonso
    Creative AM
    Fast, creative winger

    That would keep us up

Gotta disagree about Shane Long. Not enough goals in him.

19 games to go, probably 15-16 by the time a new striker comes in and he's gonna need to get 10-12 goals in those games.

@safcsource As well as making a £2.5m for Brighton's Liam Bridcutt, Poyet is interested in his team-mate Will Buckley. bit.ly/Kg4Rdl

He's got more goals AND more about him than Jozy right now and we are not going to get a 20 to 25 goals a season striker on our budget this window. I like Shane Long and think he'd be a cracking signing who could come and play from day one. He doesn't need 10-12 goals just more than 1 in 20.

Don't know why they have Mavrias, Ba, Karlsson and Roberge down as could leave though.

When we sign youngsters and they don't play apparently that means they'll be off on a permanent deal
