The season is at its half way point, so who from the top flight would be in your team and manager of the season up to now? You can only choose two players from each club. Manager = Roberto Martinez (Everton) Krul (Newcastle) Shaw (Southampton) Mertesacker (Arsenal) Kompany (Man City) Zabaleta (Man City) Lallana (Southampton) Huddlestone (Hull) Barkley (Everton) Ramsey (Arsenal) Remy (Newcastle) Suarez (Liverpool)
Manager: Pochettino Howard (Everton) Baines (Everton) Kompany (Man City) Mertesacker (Arsenal) Zabaleta (Man City) Cabaye (Newcastle) Lallana (Soton) Huddlestone (Hull City) Ramsey (Arsenal) Hazard (Chelsea) Suarez (Liverpool)
Manger: Martinez (Everton) Marshall (Cardiff) Coleman (Everton) Mertesaker (Arsenal) Fonte (Southampton) Shaw (Southampton) Hazard (Chelsea) Ramsey (Arsenal) Huddlestone (Hull) Rooney (UTD) Aguero (City) Suarez (Liverpool)
Manager: Martinez (Everton) Mignolet (Liverpool) Baines (Everton) Lovren (Southampton) Mertesacker (Arsenal) Zabaleta (Man City) Hazard (Chelsea) Thudd (Hull) Barkley (Everton) Lallana (Southampton) Aguero (Man City) Suarez (Liverpool)
Manager: Bruce (Hull City) Krul (Newcastle) Coleman (Everton) Mertesacker (Arsenal) Terry (Chelsea) Davies (Hull City) Hazard (Chelsea) Ramsey (Arsenal) Y. Toure (Man Hunter) Rooney (Divers Utd) Aguero (Man City) Suarez (Liverpool) I was torn between Davies or Lallana for the final spot but went with a little own-club bias as he's been such an important figure for us sitting 10th as a newly promoted team. Same with a tough call between Martinez putting everton in 4th and Bruce having us at 10th with the performances we've had. Not a balanced selection but I feel they're the key players for where their teams are at this point, in terms of consistency over the 19 matches.
Huddlestones been very good for us, but do you honestly believe that he's had a better season than Ramsey, Yaya Toure or even Gareth Barry? Also Baines had been good, but he's missed 30% of the season so far.
I'm not criticising them, not asking for a little bit of rationale behind them, which I assumed was the reason for posting them in the first place?
Think Ozil has been overrated this season. Quality player, don't get me wrong, but Rooney, for example, has had a far better season. The stats back this up.
Nobody should have Coleman missing from their starting 11. 5 goals so far this season from right back? He looks outstanding. For the benefit of BCC. Seamus Coleman is a right back for Everton. Currently 4th in the Premier League and as a team they have only conceded 18 goals. Which is largely down to the outstanding defence which includes Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines. Coleman has scored 5 Premier League Goals in 19 games he was signed by David Moyes from Sligo Rovers for an absolute bargain of £150k. He's historically played as a winger, but was converted to right back following the retirement of Phil Neville.
A defender's job is to defend. I think sometimes people get mixed up between what is good in a Fantasy Football team and real-life football. It always astounds me when people refer to fullbacks, such as Glen Johnson, saying 'his defending isnt his strong point'. Well dont play him as a ****ing defender then!! Baines is exactly the same, in his last few appearances for England he showed precisely why Cole has been ahead of him these past few years.
More bullshit from BCC. Everton have also conceded the least amount of goals along with Arsenal. Coincidence? No.
Eh? At what point did I say Everton havent conceded many goals. I didnt even say Coleman was a poor defender. My point - which I thought was really ****ing obvious - was that pointing out that a defender has scored 5 goals should not be the main identified attribute. Nowhere whatsoever in your original post did you say that Coleman has been an outstanding defender in a team that concedes few so he should be picked. You said he should be in everyone's team cos he scores a lot.
Sorry, I didn't realise I had to point out he was a great defender, seeing as that's his ****ing job. I pointed out the goals as you don't often find an exceptional right back with a 1 in 4 goal scoring record (which is better than most of our strikers). It's funny when for some people you have to state the obvious. Newport anyone?
If you're talking about why you like someone, yes I think it's a good idea. It's like someone saying about The Smiths "oh I like Johnny's hair". "You mean you dont find the lyrics both touching and heartfelt whilst the music soars?" "Yes of course I ****ing do you idiot, I just thought I'd mention the other part first." Carmine hadnt heard of Newport either. You know I really do feel like an ill-educated buffoon for having never heard of a tiny village nowehere near anywhere Ive ever lived....
We're not talking about the Smiths. We're talking about footballers on a football thread on a football forum. The thread title gives away the clue "Team of the season so far". So why beyond naming a players would people need more information than perhaps one key attribute? I'd suggest a right back playing for a team in the top 4 with 5 goals in 19 appearances was a rare commodity. Re Newport - if you drive on the A63/M62 everyday, I'd be even more alarmed that you don't know where it is? There's a sign for it, or do you drive with your eye's shut?
What on earth made you think I drive on the A63 / M62 every day? I have never indicated anything remotely along those lines so you've really confused me there. I also havent lived in East Yorkshire for 14 years so why would I drive on the A63? So no, I dont drive with my eyes shut but thanks for your concern / advice.
Di Canio (Sunderland) Begovic (Stoke) Zabaleta (Man Hunter) Lovren (Soton) Davies (Targers) Baines (Everton) Barkley (Everton) Ramsey (Arsenal) Y. Toure (Man Hunter) Lallana (Soton) Rooney (Divers Utd) Suarez (Liverpool) Coleman and Aguero miss out partly because of the two-player-per-club limit. I don't give a **** that Baines has missed 30% of the season - he's been superb when he has played. And Zabaleta is a bloody beast at RB - now HE can defend!
