He's a midfielder, just a note, I know him personally.

We cant send him back, they have to recall him which they probably will not do.

He is 19 and has only played in what a dozen championship games? We need someone with more experience than him.

People talk about positions far too rigidly. What position would you say Wayne Rooney is? Cos he isnt playing as a striker. Or closer to home George Boyd? He probably refers to himself as a striker or a second striker but I bet he wont play there for us. People talk as if he can sign and then only play in 1 position.

I know a Wigan season ticket holder and as AKCJ says he's been playing as a striker there.

I saw Powell play for Crewe under 18s v North Ferriby before his move to Manure, he has superb talent but on that day got taken off for showboating after a chipped shot from the half way line.

Just because he's played as a striker doesn't mean he is one. We've played Danny Graham as a striker all season..................................

I agree completely with this. So many players play fluid roles these days between midfield and attack that labels like 'striker' are no longer specific enough to reflect where they're playing.

As for Powell, where he would play would depend on the formation. In the 4-4-1-1 he'd slot in as a potential upgrade to Koren in the hole behind Sagbo. In a 3-5-2 (or 5-3-2) he could either play off Sagbo or slip into the middle with Thudd and Livermore.

The only way I can see this happening is if Spurs force our hand in putting a offer in for Livermore, e.g. by recalling him. There is no way we should be buying Graham and I cant see Sunderland wanting him back either!

Powell feeding off Sagbo's tidy footwork should be a joy to watch.

I dont think we should be looking at buying any strikers until 3 of Graham, Fryatt, Prosser and Mclean leave the club permanently or loaning until any of the first 3 leave on loan for the rest of the season. We've just got too many salaries to carry there.

what is Mclean's deal? How long was the loan for? edit - I just checked and saw it's Wednesday. I also saw -from wiki mind - this:

Mclean scored both goals as the club's development squad beat their Newcastle United counterparts in the U21 Premier League Cup.[20] When it came to light that McLean had been ineligible, having played for his parent club in an earlier round, Birmingham withdrew from the competition.

Jesus Christ how stupid must he be not to flag up that he'd already featured for us?

Injuries at Sunderland mean a Graham recall isn't as far-fetched as you might think.

McLean is set to return on Wednesday, and as he has only made 7 apps for Brum I doubt that will be extended. I assume we are allowing him to leave on a free but who would want him? I believe Posh were keen but couldn't afford his wages.

Yes he has been playing as striker, but he isn't one. Rooney is a striker, but a number 9, not 10.

I can see Fryatt being with us until the end of the season when his contract expires. Likewise, I cant see us renewing contracts for Jak, Faye, Dudge and potentially Koren.

So Figgy is a left back? Just because he is playing left back, doesn't make him one.

What would you describe him as? I'd say he's a left sided utility player who always played either left back, left midfield or left centre back and he's doing precisely that. If someone had said Powell is a midfielder or striker we wouldn't be having this discussion, it's because it was so adamantly described as a midfielder.

Powell was described as an attacking midfielder who can play as a striker right at the beginning of this thread?
