For those of you too young to see him play, this video shows just why, Diego Maradona is the greatest player ever to have played the game....watch and drool!

Messi is only 23. He still has a good few years left to hone his skills and get more experience until he reaches the commonly recognised 'peak' age of 26/27.

By the time Messi retires, he will be considered the best player the world has ever seen. I don't doubt that for a moment.

To do that, he'd have to win the world cup 1st....and remember, he's playing alongside the best players in the world at Barca. Maradona played alongside mediocre players and turned them into trophy winners!

Why the hell would he have to win the world cup? That has jack **** to do with whether you're the best player or not.

Johann Cruyff would wipe the floor with the pair of them.

Confirmed my choice of Messi. <ok> :p

Also when Marra was having a bad game he would go missing.
That used to happen a lot.

Messi always seems like the consummate professional and I have never seen another player so consistently good.

For skill, technique and ability I would say that Pele is the best that I have seen.

Maradona achieved great things surounded by average players, Messi has achieved geat things surrounded by great players. If Messi was anywhere near the level of Maradona then Argentina would have won the last world cup. Kind of like Zidane making France a great team, Messi should be doing the same if he was that good

Pace, guille, skills, 2 footed, played and won trophies (top european trophies) at every club he played for AND then went on to be a successful manager. He went to Feynoord when they were absolute ****e and won the league and cup.

Didnt take drugs, good family man and all round super human person.

Messi has a long way to go to prove he is better. Lets see how good he would be in an ordinary team, without the 2 best midfielders in the world around him?

Maradona was just a fat drug sozzled ****!

He played all his football (outside the world cups) in the glorified pub leagues of South America. For not coming to play in the hardest leagues in the world (Spain, Italy or England) he can never truly be the best in my eyes. That 1970 Brasil team would have made me look good.

Jersey - I didnt think you could actually do that but thats class? Lol

I didnt say he couldnt play football but he was completely one footed and has continued to make a total twat of himself for the last 20 years. Oh and he is a cheating **** as well.

Cruyff is a shinning example of how to conduct yourself on AND off the pitch.

For that matter so is Pele.
