He has completely the wrong attitude towards his career, the hype about him from his first time in the premier league seems to have gone to his head. A mate of mine is well informed about the club and told me that the other players call him "big time" because he thinks he's already made it and now seems to be more interested in flashy cars and design clothes. He did have glimpses of raw talent from what I remember when he played in the prem, most notably for me was the 1-1 draw at the KC against Chelsea where I thought he played some pretty tidy football with his neat footwork and accurate passing.
Think Cairney is in the last chance saloon this season to show what he can do, he has the potential to do it but he needs to stop acting the big time charlie, get his feet on the ground and concentrate on his football. As somebody pointed out, it's interesting that every player in the matchday programs label him the worst trainer. Sadly a common problem in the modern game were young lads get hyped up, get carried away with it and ending up wasting their talent due to their hype.
It's actually not that tough, we're not expecting that level of ability, but if even players that good appreciate the importance of working hard so should Cairney, and yet he's generally seen as the laziest/worst trainer at the club. I doubt Xavi and Iniesta were given the same status when they were younger and that's why they've made it later on.
Technically talented but as I have said before, I think he is in last chance saloon with NP for lack of effort
It is actually that tough as this Barcelona are one of the most exceptional teams of all time. I am going off topic a little but only a few yrs ago Ronaldinho was the catalyst for this team and he most certainly didnt tackle back. Ronaldo scored 47? goals for Man U yet spent a lot of that same season sat on his arse sulking and only made i think 10 tackles all season. I agree no one is comparing TC to any of them (ecxept maybe himself if some are to be believed on here), yes he needs to work harder, which will come with added strength in his frame. The question is will NP nurture that talent or let it go to waste.
When we got relegated the main worry was we would lose our young players who were regarded as the club''s future. The future backbone of the team. Oxley, Cooper, Cairney, Cullen. Maybe too much pressure and hype was healed upon their shoulders. Just give them another season - we have a lot to gain and little to lose.
I don't think you could call Oxley the future backbone of the team. I've heard he's not got much potential to be honest.
I agree John but its how NP uses Cooper and TC, out on loan which is just prolonging the inevitable or part of the first team squad.
Cairney has no right side game whatsoever but shows International potential with his (natural) left side game. Why the hell haven't our Coaches grabbed the lad and coached him to use his right foot? Is this sheer laziness on Tom's attitude to training or the Coaches lack of interest? Jozy Altidore was another who, whilst with us, showed that whereas he had a natural right side game he not only had no left side game but couldn't head a ball to save his life. Altidore did admit on his tweeter that he wasn't partial to training though. We appear to have a problem in this department especially with the younger players. With the correct tuition Cairney could go on to make a name for himself but not whilst he is one-sided. I know some of footballs top players get away with it but just think how great they would be if they could use both feet. It can be done if they have a mind to do it. Tom Cairney has shown the potential but nobody seems to be prepared to bring it out of him.
The thing is he's not a smug little twat in person i have met him plenty of times at the kc and training ground he is one of the nicest players at the club
The fact they are an exceptional side is why they are being chosen for the comparison, all players should be looking to emulate them to the best of their ability. They still feel the need to work their arses off despite being better than everyone else and that makes things happen for them. Other players that aren't as good as them, like Cairney, should at least be able to emulate their work rate. How does Cairney's lack of size or strength stop him from being able to track back to stop passes or block shots? How does it stop him trying to get forward to support attacks? He put the effort in against the likes of Wolves, Man City, and Chelsea, but now he seems to spend more time accepting friend requests on facebook from little tarts who fancy him than he does working on his game. He's not going to develop any strength or stamina if he doesn't work harder in training, and then when he does play he just stands around waiting for everything to happen for him. As bad as this is going to sound, he needs a serious injury or something similar to happen to him so he has to think about how lucky he is to have the opportunity he does or he's going to end up falling down the leagues and pissing it away.
This one just posted 'tom ur so fit lol x' https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1419423244 Salad dodger.
