Black Cats to re-think strike options Sunderland will look elsewhere to bolster their strike force after Peter Crouch and Roman Pavlyuchenko stated they were happy at Spurs. The Black Cats were reportedly lining up both Crouch and Pavlyuchenko to strengthen their forward options, which have been damaged by injuries and Darren Bent's departure to Aston Villa half-way through last season. However, it now appears that the two strikers who are currently plying their trade in north London at Tottenham are happy to stay put at White Hart Lane. The 30-year-old Crouch, who was rumoured to be a £10million Sunderland target, stated: "Of course I'm happy where I am. It's a great club and, in my opinion, it's on the up. "We have a lot more to achieve. There's no doubt in the world that every team are going to make themselves stronger and we can't fall behind." The England international added that he believed the manager and chairman have 'got plans' for who they want to bring to White Hart Lane and feels that with 'just a little bit of quality' then the club can make further progress. While Pavlyuchenko's agent declared that his player 'wants to stay at Tottenham' and that they will discuss a possible prolonging of his contract in the next few weeks. It means Sunderland boss Steve Bruce will have to find a partner for Ghanian striker Asamoah Gyan from elsewhere, with Championship side Ipswich Town's youngster Connor Wickham a potential target. However, Wickham is also reportedly being linked with a move to Liverpool, the club he supported as a boy. DONT THINK WHICKHAM WILL COME EITHER.
With the possibility of Dong and N'Gog, we might only be looking for one more now! Those two and Campbell would be three and four so we might just be concentrating on a quality partner for Gyan now. I'd love Wickham but it's very unlikely, sadly.. Commachio completely agree, we'll be watching more than just the paper talk.
I think it was a case of double bluff. Saying they were after Crouch and Pav when they knew they didn't really have a chance of signing them to put everyone off the scent of who they are really after!!
Sod it put a bid in for Welbeck proven (sort of) knows the team, area, fans etc. and works well with Gyan. We have money burning holes in pockets and if it's a toss up between nice red seats or a new striker I'd take the striker any day.
If hendo's worth 20 mil surely DW is. Test their resolve with a £15 mil bid. We all know money talks and imo DW wins games, hendo doesnt.
Can't remember how many games he played, but didn't he only score 6ish goals.... Sturridge is the star of the u-21s
I think its time to stop messing about. Identify who we need and bang in top dollar for them, to secure their services or at least have a chance of securing them. We're Sunderland and while we all know the north east is a good place to live, these pie in the sky millionaires, dominated by celebrity craving wags think we a bunch of savages, who have just invented the wheel. Its obvious that if we want quality then we will have to pay and in some cases over the odds. I'm a bit pi**ed off with Bruce to be honest, putting us in a situation where we need to buy a whole team and quality players think we now sell our best players anyway (Bent and Hendo). If top layers don't come for whatever reason and we just fill our teams with the Vaughn's of this world because they are free and available, then we'll be goosed next year. Come on Quinn and Bruce, pull some rabbits out the hat!
