Slightly disappointed people are pulling out - you dont even have to study the races, just take a quick guess, its only a bit of fun!

Anyway, with a free shot at number 1 im going to rely on my old favourite! Tidal Bay e/w please!! <ok>

Apart from the match concept, another way of getting more movement, if required, would be to allow anyone to challenge any of the 3 or 4 above, and swap places if the challenger wins. The last time I mentioned this I had in mind any day of the week but that would be a nightmare to administer. If kept to Saturday then maybe as soon as a challenger announces a challenge this is recorded in the table so everyone can see who is "booked" and who is available to challenge. Maybe, if the single race is too restrictive, the challenger could name the race; but it would have to be restricted (say, to races with more than x runners).

I can see however that this could fall down because it's not possible to be on-line all the time to keep the table up to date so it could end up a shambles.

There you go Reebs; I've shot it down already.

    Lol Ron :)

That is something I also considered, but it depends on a defender actually noticing that he's been challenged. The pick your own race could work though, although challenger's first pick gives a massive advantage if used cannily!

I'll try to give this a bit of thought before next week, but I don't want to piss off players who are ok with THIS option!

That's true. I'm OK with it as it is. Although it might be more interesting if the challenger picks the race (within limits). Not sure.

I think its the lack of movement and excitement that's the issue Reebs as its a good idea to have all the regular posters in a league but so little happens from week to week. I have only been in it for a month but I doubt there is too much difference in placing's from when they first arranged themselves.

We talked about league fixtures (3 points for a win, 1 for a draw) and the problems re no new entrants. How about if both challenger and challenged were to get 3 points for a winner, 2 for a second and 1 for a third (say), maybe upped a little depending on odds; or running profit could be the "goal difference" in the event of equal points.
