Liverpool will start discussions with transfer target Charlie Adam later this week, according to Sky Sports News. The influential Blackpool midfielder is set to hold talks with the Anfield club as they reignite their long-term interest in the Scotland international. The Reds attempted to sign Adam in the January transfer window, but they couldn't agree a deal with Blackpool. With the Seasiders relegated, negotiations are likely to run more smoothly this time. Adam is also expected to talk to his current club, who activated a 12-month contract extension last month, this week. The Reds have already brought in Jordan Henderson from Sunderland and the rumoured interest in another midfielder raises further question marks over the future of Raul Meireles. Despite becoming a fan favourite after a promising second-half of his debut Premier League season, the 28-year-old could be moved on due concerns about his fitness.
If anyone is going to be moved on to accomodate Charlie Adam it will not be Raul Mereiles,It will likely be Joe Cole and Christian Poulsen. There is a reason for this.Poulsen has been overlooked in the squad entirely, and Kenny has prefered to bring Jonjo Shelvey on as a sub than Joe Cole. These are two that are likely to depart.Mereiles is going nowhere.
Raul Meireles plays in a different position to Poulson. Poulson is cover for Lucas & Spearing. I'd like to think Cole would go before Meireles (I'm more concerned by Cole fitness then Meireles') but Cole is english and Kenny does seem to like him
I still believe it will be more likely that Poulsen would be departing quicker than Mereiles.I cannot see Kenny sacrificing Mereiles for Charlie Adam.
Do Liverpool need Charlie Adam. Also do Liverpool fans want him ? It's hard to see where he would fit in ?
Adams complements your midfield, you will have (with signings) Downing (or other)/Maxi Gerrard/Spearing Lucas/Adam Henderson/Meireles I reckon Shelvey will go on loan to either Bolton or Ipswich (as part of Wickham deal). Poulson, Aquilani and Cole will go bringing in almost £20m
Concerns about his fitness?!?! This past season he even showed up Kuyt with his level of fitness, the man doesn't stop running and is always the first to bomb into the box when attacking. What a stupid rumour, clearly poulsen is the one to go.
Jaffa. Thats my point. Its seems far more logical to move both Joe Cole and Poulsen on. Joe Cole was overlooked on the subs bench in favour of Shelvey and Poulsen was overlooked full stop, now what does that tell you? Even David Beckham could work it out.
I don't think anyone knows whos coming/going nor do we really know what kenny will do with them in august. right now i'm just glad our dark days are in the past, we've money and a manager and a chance again.
if Adam is got for a decent price it only adds to the squad. He won't kick up a fuss if he doesn't play every week and has ability. he would be very useful and for United fans talking bad of him, Adam is better than any of their central midfielders
You mean the United midfield that was part of a Premier League winning team, Champions League quarter final and FA cup semi final ? Yeah of course he is better
Yeah, because one player made all that happen. Put Carrick into the Blackpool team and see how he does.
I think United getting to these had more to their attack, and defence and their strength from wide areas than their incredibly average central midfield. None of Carrick,Anderson or Gibson would get in Chelsea's Arsenals or Liverpools central midfield.Barcelona showed how incredibly average Man Uniteds central midfield is.Take Fletcher out and it looks far worse.
I thought it he would be a good signing back in the pits of January. But i'm not convinved now with Hendersen also ariving. Leaves us in the centre with: Lucas, Merielles, Gerrard, Speering, Hendersen and now Adam. I would say that is one too many. I don't think Merielles will go, Speering on loan maybe.
When did I say one midfielder ? And your point on Carrick in't applicabe, United bought him because he fits our style of play not a Clubs who s in a relagation battle. I understand liverpools fans dislike about United but to dismiss Uniteds midfield like you do is a joke. For United Carrick is better than Adams as he suits our style of play. If I was responding as to who was better for Blackpool you may get a different answer but the point was made about Uniteds midfield not Blackpools
But United are aiming to better their centre midfield, targeting players better than Charlie Adam. I think Liverpool should do the same
