Naw, mate, hivny read Pratchett for a few years now. Think the last one I read was "Going Postal", but possibly another after that. My memory is getting as bad as his must be. I was unaware he was still writing and quite surprised now you tell me he is. I agree, it pisses me off too. A great talent. People sometimes asked me about what I like about his books and the answer is quite simple: How hard is it to make someone laugh out loud while reading a book? Pratchett did with ease time and time again. He has also been accused of literature
I got slapped on the coupon during our traditional boxing day pub crawl. I admit, I pushed the lassie a bit far, but she returned afterwards to kiss me and apologise. Gambol wins. Again. Every time.
The Fifth Elephant and Wyrd sisters were bought for me at the same time. Started with the witches but found it average, then read Fifth Elephant and was instantly hooked. Small Gods is a masterpiece, and The Last Continent is the book that's made me laugh the most ever. I wish I could forget them to read them again What's yours?
"Pyramids" was my first. Instantly hooked. Went backwards from there reading everything and then forwards ever after until the last few years. "Guards!Guards!" remains one of my favourites. Not his best in terms of story but certainly my favourite in terms of humour. The opening sequence cracks me up when the secret guy goes to the secret door. It goes on to explain fullly how to make the million to one rule work for you. Once. I guess the Night Watch featured books are favourite to me above the others. The Wyrd Sisters books were funny (especially Nanny Ogg) but I think the night watch in the hot pot of Ank Morkpork especially appealed to me. The wizard books (Ponder Stibbons, the Arch Chancellor, etc) were always entertaining in which Pratchett can write bickering dialogue that would make Quentin Tarrantino envious. Toby, I have good news you. Age. You will forget. You can read them again.
I am not shag locked to her. But, I will admit, I am not predisposed to shagging outwith her knowledge.
Actually it's not funny - it's absolutely true! I'm re reading the entire collection of Haruki Murakami books after a 10 year break from many of them and they're pretty much brand new in my mind
