Personally, I find it easier to maintain a sense of rationality and calmness when discussing footy and other issues on this board than in 'real life'. If anything, surely it's easier to take a breath when the forum allows an individual not to make an instant response? However, I also recognise that the anonymity of the internet allows people to be whatever they want (more macho, etc etc) and to treat others in way that they perhaps wouldn't face-to-face.
What Cerny actually said (Word for Word) was.... 'Anyone who takes an overdose and doesn't have the intention to follow it through is an attention seeker' So i stick to what my previous interpretation of it was....ie if he was serious then the lad should of died. Maybe I read it wrong but hey ho.....thats my opinion
One of the best threads that I've ever read on here was the thread that the Swansea lad himself posted explaining his rationale. His most heartfelt thoughts shared for others to understand why, and his humbling realisation of what those close to him really meant, how much they cared and understood. I think Cerny's comment was rash and ill advised. But I also accept that he is entitled to his opinion however macabre or odious that might be interpreted. A close colleague of mine lost her husband a long while ago in an accident and everyone at work bar one individual was sorrowful and sympathetic. It was a good 19 years, but I only remember the exception. It was harsh, but it was also candid, honest and refreshing. So as unpalatable as Cerny's comment may have been; it should not invoke a permanent ban. That's my opinion.
And I respect you for that; and for the oxygen of this forum - for you and I to express our opinions however diverse.
I can't remember that argument fully but funnily enough, Stainsey, there's not an awful lot wrong with what he said there when you think about it. Okay, perhaps he could have put it in a more delicate way but the main point is hard to argue with. If you really wanted to do yourself in, its actually not that hard. You'd make sure you got it right and 99 times out of 100 you'd succeed. So people that have "attempted suicide" haven't really "attempted suicide" in a real sense, its more that they were so desperate that they did something dramatic in order for people to notice their plight and help them. God help those poor people who find themselves in such awful depths of despair but as I say, if someone was 100% dead certain they wanted to end it, they'd make no mistake.
I cant remember precisely what Cerny said, but unequivocally at the time and in the context it was outrageous, and intended to hurt. It wasn't a delicate philosophical point carefully presented in a well thought out manner. It was from a bloke who'd been "offering out" board members for weeks, and slinging insults willy nilly.
Swords, in the context of what was being discussed at the time...ie..Cerny offering the Swansea lads a meet etc etc..then surely even you can see that his post wasn't meant as a deep meaningful insight into suicide..but more a nasty, vindictive insult at another poster. And if you and others really can't see that, then i think this really isn't the place for me.
I'm sure it was Staines mate but you was cavorting around with him for weeks, right up until yesterday, engaging in all sorts of gesticulating and flirtatious behavior. They were not the kind of exchanges you'd expect from a pair of guys, one of whom seemingly can't stand the other. It was good-natured playful stuff from where I was standing. I'm confused mate, I really am.
If only you were that innocent Swordsie...I might then believe you were confused. And trust me bruv...There was nothing good natured on my part (My anger management course hasn't started yet so forgive me on that one )
