If you're talking about getting an amount for him that will either just replace him or you'll have to add money to replace, then you're not, by any definition, selling him for more than you think he's worth. You've not simplified, you've changed the question entirely.

If, in your best judgment, you can get enough to replace him and still have money in the bank to strengthen the squad, you'd be mad not to do it.

Olympique Lyonnais moved from being a backwater provincial club to a major force in football by doing business just like this. They had formal rules for the transfer market that included not forming emotional attachments to players and always selling when they were overvalued. They never buy anyone under 20 (may not develop properly) and sell at 29 if they can (value will rapidly decline afterwards). They buy players only if they consider them undervalued. Simple stuff but it worked very well for them. Cloughie had very similar rules. He used to sit players down on the day they signed and tell them that if the club was offered more than Clough thought they were worth, they'd be sold.

You may not like it but it's a way to move your club upwards without spending loads of cash. And if you really don't like it, be worried by the fact that if I know about it, NC does as well.

It would be a massive risk to sell a player like Lallana...he suits our style, is a true Saint, and is young enough to get better. As we and other teams have found out...you can buy a good player who takes a year (or forever) to fit in. Nicola is a business man but shows no sign that he is a buy 'em cheap, sell 'em high Chairman. There may come a point where he sells a fans favourite because Mauricio really wants a different player, but hasn't happened yet.

We do not have a team in depth because of the constraints that Nicola is under. We do not have huge money problems, but we are not being indulged by a Russian billionaire. We are a well run club and I take pride in that.

I said Henderson and not whoever.

My view on Henderson is that he has played very well since the injuries to Gerrard & Sturridge. That's about 3 or 4 games. That's a purple patch. Lallana has performed well all season so far.

Strongly disagree with this and makes me wonder if you were there or have just regurgitated some stats.. I'm certainly not an "Adam Lallana fan" I'm actually more of an advocate for Rodriguez if anything. However, yesterday, Lallana attracted so much attention for Cardiff's defence and midfield, frequently danced around them and played the ball into space that he himself had created. His vision, poise and awareness was an absolute joy to behold.

Yes. I watched the whole game. Rodriguez was man of the match. It's not even open for debate. Won't be viewing the thread again so don't bother to reply.

Wow, that's how my kids argue with each other.

    "I say X!"

"No, you're wrong; I say Y!". Hands in ears. "Lalalalalalalalalalalalala! I'm not listening!"

    Haha maybe!

Also watching on a stream or even live on tv doesn't give you the same perception of being there and seeing the whole pitch. Anyway, Rodriguez was clinical and, as always, works hard but everything went through Adam. Not sure how many times Jrod touched the ball in the first half but wasn't too many more times than twice!

Rodriguez did play a blinder but Adam scares the opposition so much in his current form that it creates space in other areas. Opposition teams tend to focus in on him even if they didn't intend to at the start of the game and I suspect this will happen again tomorrow, leaving Jay, Rickie and Davis more space. Lets hope it does because it benefits areas of the field where we don't have Adam's quality.

The reaction above is laughable though. Some people have had bad Christmas' or too many sherries

Can't find the link, it was on at about 11pn last night. It was basically Adkins saying how good Lallana is.

Yea. To be fair, Nigel never had a bad word to say about Lallana when he was manager. He always picked him out as an exceptional trainer, hardworking and good man. After all, he made him captain. Really want to see him do well with Reading, because Nigel really is a great guy and manager.
