He stood out as a good player in the Bolton cup games last year.

Good singing, Bardo to RB in my view as he is better than Celutska at the moment.

A nice balanced team would make a change. My view would be to go

Bardo Diakite Brown Alonso
...........Catts...................
..................Ki.................
Borini....Giacc..............???
.................Fletcher..........

We need another creative player.

Matías Fernández? We were linked with him by the italian press pre season I do believe. Must be in Valentino's portfolio. He's not playing much.

So we are strengthening left back and cm
Also, we have jack Colbeck who still won't sign a new contract
Therefore will we grab some cash on him before he leaves on a free?

I dont see Colback leaving and he isnt a LB anyway. Dossena may not be the answer either and as Phil is a RB, he should be contesting with Celustka for that spot. We are still short of another LB so Dossena and has competition too. If he is signed it means we have real defensive competition throughout the squad.

Gus Poyet has urged Sunderland to maintain their momentum – after lining-up left-back Marcos Alonso as his first signing.

The Spanish defender is set for a loan move from Fiorentina and is travelling for a medical with the Black Cats.

Alonso, 22, will be one of up to three Poyet signings, after their win at Everton put them back in touch with the pack.

And ahead of Cardiff, Poyet said: “The whole squad has to pull together – two games in three days is tough. We have quality players to call upon because Jozy Altidore and Adam Johnson were on the bench at Everton.

“People keep forgetting we are unbeaten in four games – we’re playing well. It’s up to us to keep that belief going.”

But he added: “Cardiff will be difficult. They are fighting for their lives.”

Good lad and good back up/squad player who I am happy to offer a decent contract to and retain, as he can step in and do a job in several positions but tbh mate, we need far better in the team if we are not to struggle season after season. He is a canny player and a good lad but is he really a top player?

He'll be judged as to whether he's a top player or not by the quality of club who comes in for him. I seem to recall Everton were linked with him earlier. If he's good enough for them then he's worth keeping in my view.

The thing with Cardiff is they are doing okay for a newly promoted club (17 points is a decent return imo) and if Mackay was still there I'd say the players and fans would still be fighting for him. They did not want him sacked at all. I think there will be real dissent on the terraces and confusion in the dressing room after this and if we can go a goal ahead early, this will all come crashing down on their heads.

We are in a decent little run and players like Johnson and Altidore really have to start pulling their fingers out and contributing for once. AJ with assists and attacking play and Altidore with some bloody goals. They were both brought here for big money and huge wages. Time to repay that faith now.

Those two playing to their potential would be better than two new players coming in, in my opinion.

I never saw him as a fullback when he was playing fullback. He may not be the first name on the teamsheet but I think he's the cool ball playing midfielder we need to be keeping hold of, especially in the coming seasons as Poyet builds his squad.

Rock solid signing this.

Alonso is a very neat & tidy player, he's been a bit unlucky at Fiorentina where Manuel Pasqual, who looked like he was winding down last 2 years, has blew up & has been in unreal form all season.

Mati Fernandez would be a great signing, he'd bring the creativity, although he is weak as piss, doesn't score goals, and has a really low stamina pot, often ****ed after an hour, hence many moves and appearances as sub.

Fiorentina are my second team as my nanna was born in Tuscany, so I know my **** on these guys.

Borja Valero, who flopped at West Brom a few years back, would be an unreal signing from them, but a) massive wages b) massive fee & c) Florence or Sunderland?

He drives games on really well, short & long passing and getting about, effectively like what Gardner tries hard but fails at.

SUNDERLAND are expected to confirm the capture of left-back Marcos Alonso within the next 48 hours.

Alonso underwent a medical on Wearside late last week after Sunderland agreed a loan deal until the end of the season with Italian outfit Fiorentina.

There are not thought to be any hitches towards completing the deal now and Alonso’s move should be rubber-stamped once the transfer window opens on Wednesday.

The Spaniard, who made 46 appearances for Bolton before joining Fiorentina in the summer, will offer Gus Poyet an alternative option at left-back, with Andrea Dossena the only specialist in that position in the Black Cats squad.

At this stage, there are no plans to convert the loan into a permanent switch during the summer.

But with Poyet keen to avoid any more players in the squad who are untested in English football, Alonso will offer an immediate cost-effective option, albeit he has been short of game-time at Fiorentina.

Alonso impressed last season in the Championship at Bolton before joining the Serie A side on a three-year deal during the summer. The Trotters had been keen to keep him at the club, yet the 23-year-old opted to make a Bosman move to Italy.

Meanwhile, Sunderland winger Emanuele Giaccherini will not be returning to former club Juventus in the January window, claims his agent.

Reports in the Italian press have suggested Juventus, who sold Giaccherini to the Black Cats for £6.8million during the summer, could make a loan approach for the 28-year-old, if they miss out on main targets Lucas and Jonathan Biabiany.

But Giaccherini is not thought to be keen on a return to the Serie A at this stage.

Giaccherini was eager to test his credentials in English football when he agreed to move to the Stadium of Light in July.

And although Giaccherini has blown hot and cold for the Premier League’s basement boys, the Italian international remains determined to make a success of his Sunderland career.

“Contrary to what I keep hearing, the player is having a great time at Sunderland and his family are very happy in England,” said his representative Furio Valcareggi.

“Most importantly, the English club do not want to lose the player. I’ve also spoken with Giaccherini’s family and no one is aware of any interest from Juventus.”

Done Deal

Marcos Alonso
23
Main position: Left-Back
Secondary position: Left Midfield

Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
2008–2010 Real Madrid B 39 (3)
2010 Real Madrid 1 (0)
2010–2013 Bolton Wanderers 35 (5)
2013– Fiorentina 2 (0)

GUS Poyet has confirmed that Fiorentina left-back Marcos Alonso has joined the club on loan for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old Spaniard has experience of playing in the Premier League previously, having been on Bolton’s books from 2010 until July this year.

And Poyet is pleased to have made an early breakthrough in the transfer market.

He said: “I can confirm Marcos will be with us for the rest of the season on loan, which is something very important for us.

“I was always looking for a player at left-back or on the left side so I’m delighted he’s here.

“It’s competition for Andrea Dossena who is the only recognised left-back we have here - they are different sort of players so it helps us with our options.”

Poyet has an idea of how many players he would like to bring in in January but says it is always difficult to say how the month will pan out.

“The problem with putting a number on players is that I would like maybe three or four but it’s always so unpredictable.

“The reality is, it’s almost pointless saying so at the outset because things can change so much.

“Initially though, three or four is the idea.”

There are likely to be as many players leaving the Stadium of Light in January as there are arriving but Poyet says no-one is lined up to leave so far.

“We haven’t had any offers for our players as things stand and any clubs who are interested will need to make an offer because we are not going to advertise them.

“Every single player here is under contract as things stand and you need to respect that.

“We won’t be throwing names out publicly, we will consider what interest we get.”

Alonso will sign on loan Jan 1st.

Does that give him a chance to at least feature v Carlisle?
