For quite a while I was under the impression that Shola Ameobi was our penalty taker (after Ba's transfer to Chelsea), however this didn't appear to be the case at Palace, when Ben Arfa took the penalty and scored. Then yesterday Remy takes the first penalty and misses, then we get another penalty which Cabaye originally put on the spot before letting Cisse take it. Is it me or is it worrying that no one seems to be our penalty taker?

It should surely be Cabaye. Cisse has missed one or two and so has Remy. I think Cabaye is the best we have in a dead-ball situation.

HBA tucked his away nicely against Palace but I don't like watching a lefty take a pen

According to Pardew, Yohan Cabaye is our penalty taker. Apparently he was livid with Remy yesterday and had words at half time. I liked the bit where he turned it round on himself though - fair play to him.

Covers penalties in this clip from about 1:30

I like the fact that so many want to take the pens when they come along

HBA didn't do a bad job of taking a pen.

It was a good pen, but you know HBA is just the type of player to try a shimmy or chip and miss

Great interview with Pards. I like his honesty. If Cabaye is the pen taker I have no problem with that. Must admit I always feel very comfortable when HBA takes them though. Sweet striker of the ball and so super confident about his own ability that there is no hesitation. Shola has always been a cracking pen taker. Nearly always hits the side netting low at pace.

Did you get the impression right at the very end that he is starting to believe, or am I reading too much into that?

I think he is just realistic. He knows the other sides around us are far stronger. He is a football man though and knows funny things can happen. He is naturally a very positive person. I think that is why he sometimes struggles a little when things go against us. He is passionate and cares about the club. That is good thing but you have to know how to handle disappointment and channel it. Hopefully he learnt last year.

He just seems very content, as we all are. We're performing well and playing some great stuff. Results have obviously been outstanding but more than anything we've been very very watchable. He knows the CL would be a massive achievement nowadays, akin to winning a cup. It probably won't happen but I like his "give it our best shot" philosophy.

Absolutely. I still think he feels there might be something special up ahead. He has a lot of faith in our current squad and I think they are benefiting from that.

Got to say on that, well done to Pardew on his words after the game – spot on.

For those fans across football that really don't like the bloke, I think it's tough to deny that he can be pretty classy in the things he says.

Very gracious to the opponents, rarely takes a swipe at officials despite having good reason on occasion plus he shields his players often to a fault.

In truth I've never had issue with the things he says in interviews and was impressed by his day one press conference at NUFC despite not wanting the bloke hired.

All these penalty takers will come in handy when we get to the final of the champions league next season

Very true, though can remember Beardsley and Shearer missing penalties in a shoot outs, yet were our regular takers at the time.

Alan... I mean Hacky... do you sometimes find it hard to write in the third person, without letting it slip, when you are describing what you are ... I mean... what Pardew is thinking? <ok>
